So is pirates of the Caribbean really gonna be closed all summer for remodel/safety updates?

Or is this simply a rumor?

Won't effect me much really as our main trip isn't until October but I feel bad for those it will, plus it seems like a very long time for update?

I read this today as well. Apparently the safety issues are more significant than they thought. Someone lost the tips of their fingers, and at the same time they will be doing updates. Supposed to reopen sept 25th. We will be arriving on the 29th, so it shouldn't affect us.

We just got back from 2 weeks at Disney and POTC was constantly closed dues to technical issues. They seemed to be having real issues with keeping it running so it would not surprise me if it was closed for an extended time.

It is apparently true. they added new boats in 2013 and apparently those boats do not actually fit on the ride track properly.

I feel bad for POTC fans. We rode it last week and I have to say, as I rode I paid close attention to the details and I am really impressed with the experience. You really feel like you are in open water under a night sky during the pirate ship cannon battle. The margins of the building enclosing the ride are obscured. If I could have one MK ride in my backyard, I think it would be POTC. :)

Hopefully the refurb will create new generations of POTC fans.

POC is in DESPERATE need of a full rehab - lots of almost daily closures/issues and the new boat soaking issue. I am truly happy to hear it will be open for fall though as the original rumor was that it would be closed till almost the end of this year. Either way, I'm happy it's finally getting the rehab it needs.
