We're due to fly out on the 17th. Staying offsite for three nights, going to beach for two days and one night, then onsite at Pop for four nights. I know it will take a while for the area to get back to normal after Frances. I also know Ivan is on the way. Family here suggests we should postpone. We're trying to decide what to do. We'll probably be charged a change fee by SW for changing our flight. We'll probably be charged by Disney for changing our dates, plus we won't get the $55 rate, our offsite hotel will probably charge us one night's room charge to change.

Thinking of those who live in the Orlando area, I'm wondering if it would be better or not, if folks postponed. I know there will be a shortage of gas, there will be power outages, etc. Any thoughts from residents would be appreciated!

I agree. I am wondering the same thing at this point. DH things we should go and not worry, but I'm not so sure. Any advice? Thanks.

I'm due to leave in a few days too. I think I have watched the Weather Channel till I'm goofy. I feel so awful for the people who are trapped there enduring all of this storm. I'm looking at sunshine here in Mississippi and feeling guilty.

To go or not to go....that is the question!

Why don't you wait and see how WDW faired...the few nights at the beaches would also depend how the area you planned to stay was effected...the gas will be delivered and resupplied in a day or two. Remember in Florida many people earn their livings through the tourist industry so without visitors they will not earn a wage.

Ivan could be a factor but by your dates should be passed, Just watch the weather channel for updates.

Oh check my counter:

MagicInMyHeart,
Looks like we'll be at WL at the same time - if we go (which I really hope to). You're words are somewhat reassuring. Like Maxine, I am goofy from watching the hurricane reports. I feel like I'm about to go nuts from wavering back and forth on the plans.

The 17th is quite a few days away and they really clean things up fast down there especially in the tourist areas.

Wouldn't be too concerned about the 17th at this point - that's almost 2 weeks away and a lot can change between now and then! We arrived at WDW about 36 hours after Charley hit and had no problems at all. Yes you could tell a storm had gone thru, but there was very minimal structural damage at WDW - mostly vegetation which was cleaned up as the week went on. That said, the type and extent of damage was at least somewhat due to the type of storm Charley was (very quick, mostly wind, little rain) and the path it took (WDW was on the west fringe of the storm). Frances could be a much different story - and you should have a good idea how things are in a few days! Don't worry yet :sunny:

I say go ahead with your vacation. If Ivan does come, they would maybe waive all the fees like they have for the most recent hurricanes and you could THEN change your vacation dates and save $$$ on chaning stuff.

You should be fine. Gas will be back this week and Orlando will be up and running by next weekend. I leave the 19th and wouldn't dream of cancling.

I am hearing (THANK THE GOOD LORD!!) that WDW and the Orlando area are doing ok tonight. I am also hearing there were no power outages in the WDW resorts!

Mostly water damage in WDW, but they're already tending to it and will be ready to open normally probably by Tuesday.

Tis' the season you know (Hurricane that is)

Have fun.

Since you don't leave until the 17th, I'd take a "wait and see" approach.

We have our eyes on Ivan and if he's set to hit next weekend and they start closing things, we'll stay put; otherwise, we're planning on leaving in a week. :bounce:

Well I am do to leave on Sunday. My mom and Brother in law flys down to Tampa this Thursday. Sister is already in Tampa(visiting her daughter before WDW) I am torn between going and staying put. I say that if I can fly on Sunday I will or if I have to fly on Saturday I will do that also. I hope that Ivan goes away not just so I can go toWDW but for all my dis friends that live in FL. My thoughts are with all of you down there

We are due to be at WL in 4 days too. I will be so disappointed if we can't go! We'll be keeping our fingers crossed....

We are all keeping our fingers crossed. Due at WL on Friday and DH and I are so up in the air about Ivan. I can't bring myself to cancel as it will probibly be the last vaca we can take for a very long time ( I have been OUTSOURCED) but of course the safety of my family and of course others outway this vaca.
Lots of prayers and PD for our DISers there and hopefully going!!!!
I hope I get to see some of you folks around the Lodge while we are there. I didn't want to be inconsiderate but do you think I can call the IPO line? I don't know what they are dealing with right now but I haven't been able to set up any of our arrangements for this week and I didn't hear back from anyone. (Hope that doesn't sound too selfish!!!)

:(
