Hello,
We are looking to rent a cabin hopefully next December 6-12th. I know this is a harder time to secure DVC points so we went ahead and already booked another resort through Disney just to have something set in stone for the time being. That aside, what is the best way to go about renting the cabins? Trying to find a direct owner through the boards or going through something like the DVC rental store or David’s? I want to be ready to go as soon as the 11 month mark is open. I’m under the impression there aren’t all too many people that own at FW just yet so is it likely we won’t find anything until the 7m window *if* something is open?
Is it more likely to be able to snag a cabin even though December is a harder DVC month to book vs let’s say a studio at another resort?
I’m just trying to figure out the best way to go about this

Since you can't post rental requests on this board, you might be better off using one of the Facebook pages for rentals, so you can make a request. I think one of the issues with renting the cabins, is that not many people seem to have bought points. It might be difficult to find an owner.

You might want to edit your post to remove the exact dates you’re seeking.
If we’re talking early Dec. 2025, then you’ll have a really tough time finding availability this late. If you’re talking early Dec. 2026, you might have a chance, although not many people own at the cabins & there aren’t many cabins declared into DVC inventory yet.
Early Dec. is very popular w/ DVC members since villas are reasonably priced point wise. Ft. Wilderness w/ its tradition of decorated campsites for the holidays I’d imagine is also very popular.
Most owners planning to go in early Dec. 2025, booked their home resorts at 11 months out - in Jan. 2025, those eligible to book the cabins who don’t own there switched over to a cabin at 7 months out in early June 2025.
There are 363 cabins & only 63 of them have been declared into DVC inventory & are available to book w/ points.
You might get lucky & find someone who has a confirmed reservation you can rent, but if you really want to stay in a cabin in early Dec. I’d try & book one of the 300 available through Disney for cash bookings.

Since it'll be difficult to find someone who will rent that particular property at that time of year, I recommend booking through Disney as soon as it's available for a cash reservation. After that, you can attempt to find a reservation on the rental websites. I haven't looked into that myself, but it sounds like (if you use the board sponsor) you can put a request in and people who want to rent their points will see the request and be able to fill it if it's available.

The cabins at FW are newly DVC and sales are slower than other properties. The annual dues are higher than most other DVC resorts and it's a restricted resort, meaning you have to own there to book there or have purchased DVC directly through Disney. It's a very popular travel time, especially for fort wilderness. Because of those reasons, it will be hard to get a rental there.

Not every cabin has been declared into DVC inventory yet. Also, not every owner can book CFW even at 7 months. There are restrictions on resale contracts that prevent those points from being used at RIV and CFW.

You might be better off making a reservation directly with Disney rather than hoping to find someone who purchased a CFW contract to book for you at 11 months if your heart is set on staying there.

You are correct - there are not many FW owners yet. That’s going to make it harder to find a ‘home resort’ owner to book it for you at 11 months. Plus these owners only recently purchased, making it more unlikely they’ll be looking to rent out points so soon.

This season and room category is akin to BW standard and AKV value studios and 2BRs… the low point seasons are walked by owners and targeted by commercial renters doing confirmed reservations for $25+ per point. December being a peak interest time at Wilderness Lodge and FT Wilderness makes it among the most challenging rooms to get via rental (without paying a premium for Spec Reservations).
