Postal Strike

OK OK I like to think I'm a fair woman and having worked in Human Resources for many years I have a good understanding of why and how people go on strike.

But these wildcat postal strikes are very, very annoying.

I'm expecting lots of documents from America to do with the Wedding and I need to send documents back - can't be done by email as they have to have my signature - so I may have to end up fed-exing them........... I wonder how much THAT is gonna cost.

I know that there are good reasons to strike but LOL some of you know me well enough to know that sometimes I like to think that .............

i know how frustrating it can be for the customer,but it is very frustrating for me too as my partner is a postman and that means no wages for me to save for our trip to wdw lol, on a serious note though they do have to stand up for what they belive in and the whole post office belive they are not getting a fair deal from royal mail,they work very hard for low wages and on top of that the bosses of royal mail want to take away there contracts
i do hope it gets back to normal soon and that you get the items you are waiting for

I dont know the in's and out's of this strike but yesterday i went to the post office as i needed to send something recorded & insured, the cost was just £5 and would be there by Monday morning regardless of the strike. I did question this but they said it would be, so im not sure what the media is going on about, unless the post office workers are not telling the whole truth either?

if you have sent your item's by recorded or speical delivery they have to be sent regardless of any strike,the manager's of each office are still at work and it is them who take out the special mail and parcels also it depends where you are sending it to it is only the south east that is affected by the strike
lets hope it ends soon and we all start getting our mail again

With regards to special delivery though we had a problem with this too. LOL we received a note through the door telling us that the Royal Mail wanted to deliver something that needed a signature but because we weren't in we have to go and pick it up at the sorting office - went to the sorting office but there was a sign saying "Clsoed due to Strike Action" ......... so now the question for us is - how do we pick up the package ? LOL let's hope it was just because it was a Saturday

i have just told this to my dh and he say's there should be a manager at the office that will be able to give the packet to you,the managers are still working at each office
maybe it would be better to ring the office first thing tomorrow i do hope you are able to get hold of the item
as for the strike it looks like it's going to be another day they are not working if this carries on our holiday next year is in jeapody and then i will have to then start moaning about the postmen lol
anyway i'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you get your item of mail

Thanks eva - I feel like we have our own Postal Consultant on the site now I hope that a settlement can be agreed upon and that all is sorted but I'm also a believer in you have to make a stand sometimes. I'm keeping fingers crossed for you that it works out so that your holiday won't be in jeopardy

I've still been getting special deliveries from work (sadly!!! LOL) and it's a manager who's been bringing them, he also keep asking me for directions to other roads as he's no idea where he's going - bless!

with the strike over and posties being told to just clear the mail in the offices you should have it or at least it be on its way to you hopefully there will be no more strikes but i wouldn't hold our breaths talks are still being held between acas and the royal mail until 10th december
but hey for now they are back to work now and dh said he was pleased to be back serving his public

what you were saying about the manager delivering you post is close to another reason the postmen are unhappy
the bosses at royal mail are not happy that some postmen (when doing overtime)are earning nearly as much as themselfs,so they have told posties that they can only do so many hours overtime and when they reach that they can do no more but then they will go and get casual staff from agencies and pay them to do the rest instead of their own workforce and they end up getting lost or even the mail itself gets lost
but for now my dh is just happy to be at work and hopefully things will be sorted out and get back to normal(i have a holiday to plan )

Everybody loses out when these idiots act illegally. It is about that the Royal Mail monopoly is taken away and opened up to other more reliable people to operate.

I am certain that there are people out there who are waiting for tickets etc and must be getting in a right pickle about it especially when they said this morning that it will take at least 2 weeks to get through the backlog (probably on overtime!!)

i have to say being married to a postman that they do work very hard for the little pay that they recive and the reason they strike is because of pay conditions(they are only asking for their london weighting to be raised as living costs in london quite high)my second point to replying to your post is that bosses are saying it is going to take that length of time to clear the backlog but what they don't tell you is that they will send down a lot of post in one go and the posties have to deliver it all, and no it won't be on overtime because they have cut the amount of overtime their men do

My business relies heavily on the Royal Mail and I have nothing but praise for my postie who braves all weathers with a cheerful smile. I also praise the lovely people at the sub-post office that I use daily to send mail worldwide, who stick the stamps on for me 'cos I hold up the queue otherwise!

Like all institutions there are a few bad eggs but the majority like my postie and uktiggers husband work long hard hours and deserve more. I don't condone strike action though and I fear that the monopoly may well be broken and it will be those in outlying districts who will suffer most because no one will want to service a loss making area.

it's so nice to know that there are people who support the postmen i also don't agree alot of the time when companies do strike,but then like my dh says it is them that have to work there and they have to stand up for what for what they belive is right i just hope that this is the end of it all
