Post your Give a Day Project Linus Blankets!

Hey Belle - I know you live just down the road from me - did you drive over to Arlington or FW to drop off your blankets? Mine are due this weekend and I'm planning to drive over tomorrow or Saturday. I may choose a different site than you if you're not too confident about the receipt.....

TxAg

Hey again, TxAG:wave: !

I went to Arlington. It was a very easy drive for me since I was dropping -off relatives at DFW airport. Even coming home was super easy as I went mid-day. It is very close to the new Texas Stadium. The lady at the Arlington Location did seem very familiar with the blankets--like she was used to collecting a lot of them--so I really don't think there is anything to worry about on that front.

My main concern was not her, per say...I just wanted someone to confirm that you really don't get any kind of receipt for the transaction.

Good luck!

What is the finished size required. I bought a 1 1/2 yard pieces of fleece which are 58" wide. I don't know how much to tie. I also bought some fleece on which I am going to do blanket binding. I cana't wait to get started this weekend.

I just want to say that everyone's blankets are so beautiful! Good job everyone!!

Well theres 2 chapter driving distance from me but they didnt particpate in the disney give a day. Looks like i will have to mail out our blankets if we sign up. Whats the best affordable way to mail the fleece blankets? Hopefully we can find a chapter that requires one blanket per person. We were thinking of doing
1- 36x45
2- 45x60

how much are others paying for shipping?

We are a family of 4 so we had to make 12 blankets. It was so much fun!

Our local chapter said we could only make single layer blankets,so we had to make 3 each. She said that the hospitals in our area (Myrtle Beach) liked the thinner blankets because the children get too warm in the hospitals with thicker blankets. :confused3

All of the Blankets are awesome...
I have a question about the give a day get a day program. We are AP holders but want to volunteer anyway, do the vouchers that you get do they expire? My second question is we are going to be taking my sis-in-law in Dec. and they dont have a lot of money her and her husband have been out of work over a year.. would we be able to donate our ticket that we get to them?

I'm wanting to know about shipping as well. We did single layer, 2 each. The pattern we had only had fringe on two ends though...I keep double checking b/c everyone else is doing all four sides.

Who has mailed some already?

The vouchers are good through Dec. 15, 2010. They are not valid on March 28-April 8, and July 4.

You cannot give them to someone else, but if you were making blankets and dropping them off, you could sign up and do it in their names, if they were okay with it.

Ok, so I need a little clarification please!!

1. If there isnt a blanket project in my area I can pick one from somewhere else and mail them in?

2. If they want single layer blankets, I just buy one piece of fleece and cut the fringe and tye knots in them?

It just seems too easy! Like I'm missing something, esp to get a free Disney ticket out of it!!

I thought I read that each person had to make 2 blankets.

Does anyone have a rough estimate of how much it costs to make one of the fleece blankets?

Everyone's looks so great!

The single layer fleece blankets I made cost a little less than $12 (I bought 1 1/2 yards of fabric), although I just made baby and child sizes, not the larger teen blanket.

For the postage question:
There are 4 of us and we had to do one blanket each. So for 4 single-layer blankets (twin bed size), our postage was about $10 for the box to ship to IL.

BTW, I mailed it at the post office on Saturday and got the email with our vouchers in it on Friday (today). That was fast! yay!!!!:cool1::cool1::cool1:

No, I used one I already had. The $10 was all shipping costs, no supplies.:lovestruc

The blankets all look great, I just expressed interest in one, hopefully we aren't too late!

Does anyone know if they tix can be upgraded?

we only had to make one blanket per person, but they had to be twin size or larger. There are 5 of us, so we made 5 blankets. We bought the fabric from JoAnn's, and made double layer. It would be kind of hard to make just a single layer if its a fleece knot blanket, I would think? Here are ours. Silly me, I never got a picture of all of them completed! We did "big kid" patterns for three, as teens and boys are often overlooked. Most people make them for babies and younger kids.

May I ask: How big was the material for the large one your husband is holding? DD wants to make some for bigger kids as well. TIA

Oh, this makes me feel so much better!! Thank you , thank you!!!

My coordinator told me to change my date as my blankets were finished early. I logged on to my account and there was an "edit" button and it essentially took me back to where I first picked a date and allowed me to change the date to "the next day". My coordinator then signed off on it right away. Got my vouchers 3 days later.:woohoo: As it is the Hands On site, it should work for everyone.

These all look great!

I signed up and am going to go buy my material. Our blankets need to be 50 x 60, so I think I need to buy 2 yards of fleece. Does that sound right? This will be my first time making one of these.
TIA!

DH and I made 2 quilts for the project. (Ok...DH watched the kids while I made them.) Here are ours....

This one is alternating blocks of a Cracker Jack print and a soda pop print with a "caramel filling" between the rows.

And this one is just a strip quilt with some fabrics that I liked together.

As you can see from the pics, my youngest DS liked them both!

(BTW--if this actually works it will mark the first time I've successfully posted pics to the DIS after about 7 years of being a member!)

I just went out and bought my fleece to make my blankets. I have to make 6 just for me! :scared1: It's for a good cause and it's still less than the cost of a one day ticket and I think I'm still going to donate the ticket to the boys and girls club of orlando since I'm an AP holder.... but still 6 blankets!
