I know there is one thread on Estelle Getty. I know I am not the only huge fan of the Golden Girls out there so in honor of Estelle Getty. Let's post our favorite Sophia moments or quotes.

1. When Sophia talks about the fire at Shady Pines
2. Sophia in the episode when the ladies get arrested for prostitution

RIP Estelle: you will never be forgotten

So many to choose from but I always remember her telling Bea Arthur "Jealousy is an ugly thing Dorothy... and so are you in anything backless."

Loved all her nicknames for Blanche: human mattress was one of my faves.

Oh! And who could forget when her daughter is tellig the story of how she got pregnant the first time and she accuses Stan of drugging her. She said "Ma, I swear he must've slipped me something". Sophia's response: "Apparently!".

I loved during the episode where Dorothy, Blanch, and Rose are talking about how they meet to get their mind off of the movie Physo. and at the end when sophia comes in with the butcher knife and shrills! i still LOVE that!

She will be forever missed:angel:

It's funny that she played Dorothy's mother, but in real life was actually younger than her and Betty White.

My all time favorite episode of the Golden Girls was kind of a serious one. It's when Sophia hands over their winning lotto ticket to a homeless shelter.....Now my favorite funny Sophia moment...there's just too many to name one. :rotfl2:

I'm so glad you posted this thread. I was checking to see if anyone had any tributes before I posted one!! Thanks!
Sophia was always my favorite character mainly because of her wit and sarcasm. One of my favorite lines from her was when she went outside, lifted the cover to the grill to see what was cooking and she says "Great, ribs! Why don't you just kick my teeth out of my head!" There was another one where she was pretending to be Blanche's mother and was chaperoning her on a date. Blanche was talking about her southern upbringing and Sophia says "We was poe."
There are so many classic lines from her. I was so sad to hear of her passing. RIP, little lady!!

"after glow"

she goes to brooklyn for a friends funreal and ends up spending time with max. the husband of the friend.. he fly to miami to see sophia.. and dorothy walks in ask what is going on and sophia states, "after glow" :woohoo: :woohoo: :rolleyes1 :worship:

the look on her is priceless..

I used to watch the show when I was younger on nick @ nite or whatever - I remember this one time when Dorthy walks in on Sophia in the living room, and she asks her what shes doing, and Sophia says "Its Tuesday, I'm cleaning out my purse, what do you think I'm doing!!" or something like that. I was young, so I thought that EVERYONE had to clean out their purses on Tuesdays..... I know, dumb, but I was young!!
I also always liked it when her husband (who had passed) would "visit" her - like the time they go back to Brooklyn to see the wall markings of the kids heights. Sophia said it was in the kitchen, and Dorthy swore it was somewhere else. The finally found it, and Sophia said that she thought it had been in the kitchen (not the bedroom closet where it was) because the bedroom closet is where Sal used to hang the salami!!! Who hangs salami in a bedroom closet!!!

RIP

I remember a lot of good moments from that show, but the one that stands out to me now is the one where she wants to ride Space Mountain. Her daughter went along so they could relieve old memories through photo albums, etc, and Sophia wants nothing to do with that. She wants to experience the present and do things while she has the physical ability to do so.

They don't show them getting on SM, but show the outside of the ride at night and you hear Sophia finally getting her wish.

"Oh boy, we're going to a sperm bank. I wonder if they have a drive-thru window."

My son and I have our favorite scene and quote ever... it was when Sophia pretended to be Blanche's Southern mother with her blind boyfriend. She explained how they grew up in her worse down home accent "we wus PO"... :lmao:

My personal favorite... PICTURE IT, BROOKLYN, 1957...:lmao:

She was my Mom with a straw purse!! Loved her!!!

Here are some of my faves:

When they all went to a Miami high school reunion and Ma pretented to be the Spanish teacher and she was hitting on one of her "students".

Sofia was delivering food for meals on wheels and Dorothy meets that hippie (Martin Mull)who hasn't left his house in 20 something years and Sofia says "Who's the macadamia?".

When Sofia meets that old man at the boardwalk and they go back and forth bickering. Then it turns out he has alzheimer's.

And of course the "bacon, lettuce, potato sandwich" with Johnny No Thumbs.

My favorite was when they were at the sperm bank and she elbows the guy next to her and says" I bet this is more fun then giving blood, huh?"
