I am not sure if there has been a thread like this one. :confused3 Sorry if it's a duplicate.

I know I will have to cut costs in places, and I'm hoping centerpieces and decor is one area. I am on the lookout for inexpensive ideas everytime I am out. What have you seen/used/thought of?

Our first choice is The Living Seas, second is Boardwalk Attic -- not sure which "theme" to go with....something water-related. Some theme ideas I had...Little Mermaid, Nemo, Pirates, lighthouses, fish, ships. I don't know! But DBF bartended a wedding at the firehall a week ago and they had some kind of "marine" theme and he loved it. So I said, well I guess our first choice will be LS!

So....post some pics if you'd like to share ideas! Thanks.

Not "marine" but i like them anyway!!

I went to a friend's wedding recently and she had large glass containers with sand and shells on the bottom, and candles on top of that. It looked beautiful without being overtly "sea life" themed. You could also put large glass containers with little goldfish swimming around inside. At the end of the evening a guest can win a fish to take home.

Our wedding is in an old California Mission, so we've got centerpieces of long wooden candle holders that are old mexican sugar molds filled with little candles. And we have some rustic, dark wood bowls filled with persimmons, tangerines, kumkats, and various fall colored flowers. ...cuz it's a fall wedding. :teeth:

Anyway, good luck with everything!

we made our own centerpieces for our ariels reception, it saved us a ton of money & made our reception very personalized. we also made our menus & brought in our own placecard frames & personalized napkins. we had 7 tables all with different under water themes. like our sweetheart table was sea of love, the kids table was finding nemo & we had a table pirates cove with a dark pirate ship & coins, etc.

heres a photo of our paradise table:

We had diseny make ours, i'm not crafty, we had a glow theme all night
and we wanted high ones

I didn't think I'd want floral centerpieces, but that is so pretty in a dark room!!! What are glow lights? I think I know. Wonder if I can get them through Oriental Trading or something. I know they sell glowsticks and accessories. Are they the glow light wafers???

Great thread! Wendy 46001 ....did they put those glowing cubes in the vase or did you acheive that with pinspotting?

Actually they are just those silly light up cubes (like the ones they put in drinks...lol)...they last like 10hours so you dont have to worry about them dimming and they come in all sorts of colors plus they can either glow or blink...the tall ones centerpieces have five in them and the little ones have two...it will be brighter the more you put in...but they are wicked cute...and are a good candle alternative.....I'm sure they have them on oriental trading....we always got them off windycity (its a glow distributor)....

Wendy,
Cool! Thanks. I did a search at Oriental Trading for the word "glow" and they did not come up, so I don't think they sell them. I am planning on an at home reception too, so I may not do the same things at WDW and at home. I was thinking if our reception is dark -- the Living Seas -- it would be fun for the kids to have glow necklaces and stuff too.

oriental trading has them are listed as Light up cubes, instead of glow, funny these search things works....We did glow necklaces at our dessert party...think the adults had more fun then the kids with those things....

Have fun with it...i'd love to see what you come up with

Codie,
I knew you had used the sandcastles -- they're Partylite, right? They're adorable.

Yeah...unfortunately they were discontinued in December '04 (i bought them way before I was engaged:))

I recently went to a beach wedding. Here are her centerpieces:

They were beautiful in person! The bottom of the vase had shells under it with a light that glowed up through the water. They were stunning; the pictures don't do it justice.

I just wanted to share that I was out yesterday, with an idea in mind, and I found something!!! I've been thinking about lighthouses. I thought, if I could find ones that allow for a candle inside......but I thought IF I could find them they'd cost a lot. I went to the Dollar Tree (don't laugh), never thinking I'd really find what I wanted, but I found HOLLOW lighthouses that are about 10 inches tall. I want to try sticking some glowsticks inside and setting it on top of maybe a glass block (those window things) and a mirror under that maybe. I hope it doesn't sound too cheesy. In my mind, it works. I'll have to let you know when I try it. I will post a photo if it looks good, but I won't try it for a while. I hope you don't think I'm too cheap! I will see if it works -- for only $1 each, I'll try it. That's for Disney only. I have some relatives in Florida, so I thought I could ship stuff to them and maybe they could get glass blocks for me there? I'm trying to make it lighter to ship, or someone has to drive.

At home I hope to do something like this. Thanks Wendy! I am saving that pic!!!

Dereka--Thanks for posting those cool water centerpieces. I love how the date shows through the bottom. I am going to save that pic too! It makes me laugh. The candles look like a Mickey to me! BTW, I am in Buffalo too!

Sounds good, and i'm a fan of the dollar tree....nothing wrong with saving some money
Please post it when your done...I'd love to see it

Need suggestions for ours please :)

Our reception is going to be in the Napa room during the day (probably 12:30 or 1:00, ceremony is at 12:00.) I LOVE all the centerpieces with sparkly things and candles, but I don't think it would have the same effect in the brightness of the daytime. We're not big on lots of flowery old lady looking stuff, so what else could we do? Help!

SRUAlum,
If you're in the Napa Room, can you see the castle? How about castle centerpieces? I was staying away from "fairytale stuff" since we're going to be in the Living Seas. But in the Napa Room, are you interested in Cinderella or other fairytales? I know people have posted pumpkin coaches and Cinderella themed favors too.

Ok. Speaking of the Dollar Tree, I picked up kids' foam puzzle squares a few months ago. They have Disney princesses and a number on each one, and a castle on the last one. I thought I could adapt them for table numbers, but even back then I knew I probably wouldn't go with a "princess" theme. But for a buck? I couldn't resist! :rotfl:

We used those in the entertainment bags for all the little girls (four total) who where in our wedding, so they’d have something to do during the reception...worked out really good because they also had nemo & princess coloring books that month as well...kept gave them something to do all night...
