DW has had a series of PMs from a member unfolding that they were charged closing costs on their DVC direct buy from Disney! The guide said it was new rules just a week or so old.

This DVC member was buying an add-on and wanted to split it into two small contracts. The guide noted that the closing cost would double if they wanted to do that. Double? Closing Costs?

Is there a mistake here or is this the first of many post-March 20th apocalyptic type changes creeping into our DVC world? :confused3

Can anybody out there confirm this or other changes noticed? I tried to find a post discussing this but did not find one that jumped out at me. Sorry if I have double posted something.

I read those posts and had wondered if that was taking place. Our Guide had warned us in 2008 that it was coming eventually so not real surprising but still I had hoped that it was just one of those things that gets said and never comes about....
We will be doing an add on sometime this year, had planned on 2 50-75 point contracts, now maybe just wait and see what happens with the whole GFV rumor and possibly add on there:thumbsup2...Shawnpirate:

Yes, someone reported that here from their guide a few weeks ago but I didn't follow the thread to see that it was all verified, but I guess it is. It was probably in the Operations forum since it's about ownership and buying.

Wow... where's the cash register icon when you need one...

So add ons through DVC now have closing costs?? ick...I guess I am glad I am done.. :)

Me too!! I didnt sell pre 3/20 and I am glad I did not. It did not make sense for me to shed points at relatively low prices and then have to pay more for less to buy them back later.

I think they are getting ready for the hysteria that will surround GF and Poly DVC's. People will want to add on multiple contracts and they will make them pay for the privilege.

DVC is not going to leave any money on the table.

When I talked to a guide a couple weeks ago ,she did tell me about the closeing cost but I did not relize it would be two times if you split the contract -augh

Think I am done adding on for a while, but had a question. Aren't closing costs a percentage of total cost? Meaning it is based on the number of points you purchase, not just a set $X per contract.

If that is so, not sure how splitting a contract would cost you more in closing costs? 2 50pt contracts or 1 100pt contract would still be the same?

What am I missing?

Wow that is pretty BS. Quality assurance prepares the paperwork, and they work for DVD anyway. I can understand if DVD makes you pay for the recorder's fee/tax but that should be minimal.

So they make one change to draw more sales in and then one change to drive sales away.

Is this what they teach at the Disney Institute?

Title would be 2 total sets of paperwork, and imagine there are minor fees, but 2 fees for them when they did it. Previously I bet they just ate them.

Now it is super common place to break up contracts..

We just did this when we bought an add on while on the Magic. I really wanted the contract split, and we paid a nominal amount more (less than $50).
I did not realize that paying closing costs was anything new, though. Ah well. Still happy figuring out what we'll do with those new points.

Not to hijack this thread but we are going on the Dream 4/28 and thinking of adding on. Were there any extra incentives for adding on onboard? Thanks!

WOW....this REALLY makes me rethink an add-on !!! Thanks for the info. A head's-up from our guide about this would have been nice ?? :sad2:

We were on the Magic in March. They offered heavily discounted points (10-20 off pp, depending on where you bought) and a $500 onboard credit. I really wanted that credit, but we didn't add on.

I guess I am done adding on.

I am all for Disney making money. But until I see an equal investment in the parks, I am not buying any more DVC points.

They will charge us what they can --- and if we don't buy, they will be forced to adjust. Sometimes, the stress of having to continuously increase profits drives people crazy.

DH and I want to add on at the Boardwalk as we loved staying there 3 weeks ago. We will definitely go resale as we only want the points to stay there.

No, they make a change to draw more sales in, then they charge you additional fees and raise the price.

Same model as changing the point allocation causing the majority of the members to use additional points, then letting you transfer in extra points from Disney at $15 per point.

I don't think that the new DVD business model cares about selling add ons, just new sales to first timers who don't know what's behind the curtain.

boy will be disappointed if they do a Polyn DVC and would have to get one contract....

oh well until it is announced have no problems.

very, very happy with BLT. my brother's family still miss OKW - but hey they can buy one day.
