Sorry, I don't know what happened to my first post, it never uploaded properly.

We are leaving for WDW in 3 weeks staying at AKL Savannah room. We chose these rooms for a couple of reasons. One, because we were blown away by the resort when we visited Boma on our last stay. Two, because we know the kids would absolutely LOVE it. Third, and most importantly, because my mom and dad are joining us and dad is in a wheelchair and will probably be spending a lot of the time in the room and watching the animals.

I got a phone call today from my dad saying he wants to cut their stay by two days. I called WDW and spoke with a wonderful CM, Helen, who helped me change the dates and still keep our Savannah rooms. I told Helen about the DIS and how I have read about some guests not having pleasant experiences with CM's and let her know that I have ALWAYS had extremely good experiences with every CM that I speak with and thanked her for adding to my pleasant experiences. All seemed well...

About 20 minutes later, I received a phone call from Helen telling me that WDW was doing road construction, that they were moving the animals and would no longer be within view of our Savannah room. As you can imagine, I was VERY disappointed. I asked her what my options were and they were: 1. Keep the present rooms at $135/night each (yes, I know it's a great rate for a Savannah view room) 2. Move to a pool view room for $142/night or 3. Concierge. I explained to Helen why we wanted the Savannah view room, as we were going through the options, and she was very nice to listen to my story. I told her that I couldn't make a decision without talking to my parents or my DW and said I'd call her back as soon as I could.

I couldn't get hold of ANYONE, and I was just about to post on the DIS and ask for advice when the phone rang. Helen was calling back again. She said that she had called AKL, explained our situation and wanted to let me know that they were going to offer us Concierge rooms for $135/night per room. I was speachless! I asked Helen to hold on for a second and covered up the phone and screamed WOO HOO!!! at the top of my lungs! When I got back on the phone, she was laughing. After offering to buy her lunch when we got there, she laughed and just requested that we have a nice stay... just try and stop us!

I really believe I was offered this upsell because I was very, very genuine and pleasant. I think that if I had been nasty to her when she gave me the bad news, I would have been out of luck. Granted, Helen made it easy to be polite because she was very professional and consoling when giving me the bad news.

Don't ask me which Savannah rooms this construction affects, because I don't know and I never asked. If you do have a reservation, you may want to check on them.

Wow! Good for you! I hope you all have a fantastic vacation!!!! :D :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Were you speaking with Helen in special requests (rooms for people with special needs)? If so, I've been lucky enough to speak with her on a couple of occasions and she is simply wonderful...the epitome of Disney magic. I hope your entire family has a very special trip!!!

BCV, it's one and the same Helen. She is a wonderful, wonderful CM. Not just because of the upsell, but because she called back twice and her professionalism and compassion were great!

Good news jdads2. They could have put you in another Savannah view room. I can't believe all the savannah views would be affected. If so, they are going to have many po'd guests.

I'm so glad for you. I like it when nice things happen to nice people!
I know some people believe that it's the squeaky wheel that gets the grease, etc., but I really believe that it pays to be understanding & nice...and you just proved it!!
Have a great vacation!

I'm sitting here trying to rub off my "goosebumps" what a great ending to a story! I'm sure this will make your Dad's stay even easier being in concierge and very much deserved! I love to hear when people w/ a handicap get the extra pixie dust 'cause I think they deserve it!! Have a wonderful wonderful time!!

We are staying at AKL in 3 weeks as well although we have a standard view room. Are the animals actually being moved out of the resort or to different savannahs within the resort? I don't want to stay at AKL if there will be allot fewer animals than usual and/or road construction to drive through each time we leave and arrive at the resort.

I don't know if the animals are going to be moved out. I would doubt if they would be moved out of the surrounding area...the logistics, where would they put them. I would guess that they would add them to the exhisting, uneffected savannahs. That is my VERY uneducated guess.

I would call to check if your concerned.

Have fun!

Well, I guess they could move animals over to Animal Kingdom temporarily. That is if they were going to move some animals out of the AKL during this road construction. I wouldn't think there wouldn't be enough room to crowd animals from a closed savannah to the other 2 savannahs. This is all guessing on my part of course. I contacted my Dreams agent and I will wait and see what kind of information she can find out for me.

I checked with Guest Services at AKL when this was first reported a week or so ago and they ASSURED me that any guests who had savannah view rooms WOULD get a room with a view of the animals. They will be closing off the rooms that overlook the construction and I believe they will move the animals to the unaffected savannahs until the road construction is complete.

Will those of us with a standard view room, now get a construction view???? I don't mind looking out at a parking lot or bus stop but the noise and view of construction would be unacceptable.

No, the contsruction is on the savannahs, they are paving over the mud access roads. Standard view rooms did not have views of the savannahs and should not be affected.

But could those former savannah view rooms now become standard view rooms since there will no animals to view there, only construction equipment? I should of been more clear with my original questions, sorry.

I am soooo happy for you. Please have a wonderful visit. We stayed at the AKL concierge in April and LOVED it. You will really have a great time. Call and see if they have room for your family on the Sunrise Safari. It is really a great deal!! Any questions please let me know!

I called reguarding the sunrise safari. I was told that the concierge staff would call me today or tomorrow and go over our plans. Thanks for the offer of info, I'll be sure to ask!!

My family stayed at the AKL last year in a standard room and loved the experience. You will not be disappointed. Our service from the hotel staff was wonderful.
