Sorry, I don't know what happened to my first post, it never uploaded properly.
We are leaving for WDW in 3 weeks staying at AKL Savannah room. We chose these rooms for a couple of reasons. One, because we were blown away by the resort when we visited Boma on our last stay. Two, because we know the kids would absolutely LOVE it. Third, and most importantly, because my mom and dad are joining us and dad is in a wheelchair and will probably be spending a lot of the time in the room and watching the animals.
I got a phone call today from my dad saying he wants to cut their stay by two days. I called WDW and spoke with a wonderful CM, Helen, who helped me change the dates and still keep our Savannah rooms. I told Helen about the DIS and how I have read about some guests not having pleasant experiences with CM's and let her know that I have ALWAYS had extremely good experiences with every CM that I speak with and thanked her for adding to my pleasant experiences. All seemed well...
About 20 minutes later, I received a phone call from Helen telling me that WDW was doing road construction, that they were moving the animals and would no longer be within view of our Savannah room. As you can imagine, I was VERY disappointed. I asked her what my options were and they were: 1. Keep the present rooms at $135/night each (yes, I know it's a great rate for a Savannah view room) 2. Move to a pool view room for $142/night or 3. Concierge. I explained to Helen why we wanted the Savannah view room, as we were going through the options, and she was very nice to listen to my story. I told her that I couldn't make a decision without talking to my parents or my DW and said I'd call her back as soon as I could.
I couldn't get hold of ANYONE, and I was just about to post on the DIS and ask for advice when the phone rang. Helen was calling back again. She said that she had called AKL, explained our situation and wanted to let me know that they were going to offer us Concierge rooms for $135/night per room. I was speachless! I asked Helen to hold on for a second and covered up the phone and screamed WOO HOO!!! at the top of my lungs! When I got back on the phone, she was laughing. After offering to buy her lunch when we got there, she laughed and just requested that we have a nice stay... just try and stop us!
I really believe I was offered this upsell because I was very, very genuine and pleasant. I think that if I had been nasty to her when she gave me the bad news, I would have been out of luck. Granted, Helen made it easy to be polite because she was very professional and consoling when giving me the bad news.
Don't ask me which Savannah rooms this construction affects, because I don't know and I never asked. If you do have a reservation, you may want to check on them.
