Just booked our October trip to the world(SSR was the only place that had one bedroom for all of our nights--not that I mind, we like it there, but we were thinking of returning to WLV as it was 2000 since we were last there). Anyway, Dh is an avid golf fan, and since we'll most likely be driving(even with the high price of gas and our gas lovin' sequoia, it still looks to be cheaper than flying). We are thinking of coming back through Alabama along I65 and he is interested in staying somewhere along the Robert Trent Jones for a night and playing a round. Does anyone have any recommendations--especially a resort with a nice pool/kids activities?

We had also thought about stopping by HHI for a couple of nights and playing there--but it seems pretty expensive to play there! Any tips on getting better prices on greens fees there?

Thanks in advance~

Jennifer

My husband plays the RTJ golf trail regularly. We have stayed at the Lodge at Grand National in Opelika and it was very nice. We didn't take the kids either time though so I don't know how they would have liked it. There is a nice pool. DH really enjoyed the course. We have also done Ross Bridge in Birmingham. It is gorgeous. Again, we didn't go with kids. Other than those two, he usually just goes with his buddies. I will have to ask him for more information and get back to you. I will post more soon!

Take a look at lmteetimes.com for discounted HHI golf. We use it every year we go on our golf trip, prices range from $55-$67 including a cart. Hilton Head National is the best course for the $$ in the whole area.

Thank you both--that lmteetimes gives me some hope about HHI golf(now and in the future--we're members there as well!). I noticed Hilton Head National was $55--not bad at all!
The Ross Bridge on the RTJ is one we were looking at.....now for the decision, which road to travel on....I guess we could go one way for our Oct trip and another for Spring Break.

DH just returned from his fourth trip to the RTJ trail. He also golfs when we go to HHI. When he golfs the RTJ trail, though, he stays at Comfort In-type places. He's played at Ross Bridge, but thought it was really overpriced, twice as much as any other RTJ course. He especially liked Prattville, which does have a resort there now. Oneonta, near Birmingham, has a lovely, but non-RTJ golf course and beautiful resort facilities, Limestone Springs (or as DH kept calling it, "Radiator Springs"). You might want to look at that one. Have fun!

DH likes all the RTJ courses. He has stayed at the resorts and stayed "off site" (hee hee). He prefers Ross Bridge but it is probably the most expensive. We get a discount on the hotel through AEA (the education association) and it is substantial. He agrees that Prattville is a good course too. He said stopping at any of the RTJ courses is worth it. The only discount he knows of is the Trail Card. They are good for one year and can be used on any of the courses. The Card is about $40.00. The first time he used it he got a $48.00 discount so it paid for itself first go round. If you were going to play more than once in the year it would save you even more. He said the website for RTJ golf trail has all the info on the courses and the card. Hope this helps! Have fun!

If you are coming up HWY 280 from GA towards Birmingham, I'd play FarmLinks (same company that manages Limestone Springs). Very nice course, though not RTJ. For RTJ courses, I'd suggest Grand National in Opelika, Capitol Hill in Prattville, and the Greenville courses.
