My family has been fortunate enough to have gone to Disney World 3 times in the last 6 years. I really was starting to feel like a pro at it, but now all the new changes have me confused and apprehensive about booking a trip for March 2022. I know Genie+ hasn’t been implemented yet so I’m not sure if anyone truly knows how it’s gonna work but I still thought I’d ask some of the questions/concerns I have about it. I welcome all definitive knowledge, as well as just rumor.
1. In the past my family has always tried to do rope drop. We always seemed to be able to get 1-2 good main attractions in before even having to tap into FastPass. We typically wouldn’t even make our first Fast Pass until 10-11am. With this new Genie+, I understand resort guests can make their first selection at 7am? So since Genie+ will only allow you to make one selection every two hours…does that mean you’re basically locked into using the system first thing in the morning if you want to maximize the number of attractions you could get through it? I’m just super worried with this new system that you end up paying for it, but you’ll only get 1 or 2 main attractions utilizing the “lightning lane”. What happens if certain attractions aren’t even available until way later in the day? Are you locked out from making a selection for an earlier ride say if you want to guarantee you get on “X”, but the only availability was at 3pm? What then? Does Genie+ lock me out from other rides until then?
2. I really don’t understand this park reservation system. What’s the purpose of it? And if I buy a vacation package ahead of time, with so many days worth of tickets, is Disney really telling me I may not be able to get into the parks? I mean the concept is really strange to me that they’re selling tickets for something, but essentially you may not be guaranteed to use what you paid for? Am I thinking about this wrong? How likely is it you don’t get the park you want on the day you want? How far out do you get to make park reservations?
3. I see the dining reservations have gone from the 180 days to 60 days. Has this made it that much tougher to get reservations? They were hard enough for some places 180 days out!
even though I felt like a pro at planning this stuff prior to Covid, all these changes have me freaking out cause I feel like I’m back at square one being a newbie again. Appreciate your inputs. Thanks.
