I have Spina Bifida, and can't stand in the shower, so normally I sit on a stool/chair and have a handheld showerhead. In 2005 at AKL, in a non-handicapped accessible room I had one. Last year, however, there wasn't one and we found out that all rooms are like this except for handicapped accessible ones. It was doable for me by having it adjusted before I got in the shower and moving around a bit, but not ideal.

This year I'll be going back staying in an AKV studio, and again will have the same issue. I'm wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to detach the showerhead they have on there and put on a handheld one I bring with me?

I am sure that it can and will be done. I would suggest bringing it with you. When you check in at the resort ask to speak with a Guest Services Manager and explain the situation. There should be no problem for them to send up someone from engineering with the proper tools to remove the original shower head and install yours. When you are ready to check out they will be able to reverse the process.

This way someone who has the proper tools and experience will be the one to do it. Also, if something should get broken along the way (such as a pipe) it will be their responsibility, not yours.

I cannot see such a request being turned down. But if the first person says no, you can nicely escalate it by asking to speak to their supervisor, up to an including the General Manager of the Resort.
