I'll admit it - I'm a lurker on this board but my husband is DVC crazed and has been nagging me consistently to the point I'm ready to buy into DVC just to get him to stop!! I am really convinced that DVC is for us but am not sure if now is the right time. We love WDW, love to travel, and hate to spend a lot - so we're perfect, right?

Well here is the question - I was thinking of buying DVC as a Christmas present and put the deed in his stocking but that would mean only my name would be on the deed. After reading about the potential cost and hassle to change the deed I'm not sure if I want to do that to add his name later. Then I saw the term "associate member" tossed around - what does that mean and how is that different from a full member?

Thanks muchly for any info!!

the associate member can not made a cash reservations using the DVC member discount. they also do not have a DVC member card.

that I was told was the only difference

the associate member can make reservations using the points - they get all the member benefits when you are at the DVC resort.

their card says DVC member - just like yours.

I would talk to Judy Kaufman 1-800-827-7163.

since you have not brought - there might be a way to put his name on it. (I am not sure about his signing the stuff) - but I am pretty sure that Judy can help you.

now if you are going resale - then I think you both have to sign everything.

Hi,

I'm an associate member. I can make reservations, bank or points. That's about it. I didn't have to sign any papers going through disney & I also didn't get a membership card. But I can get the same benifits as my mom. Hope this helps. Good luck!!

Are Associate members considered part owners or do they basically just have the use of the points?

If I added my adult daughter as an associate member and she got a divorce, would SIL have any claim to my points?

Hi,

As an associate she is not on the deed. She can just make reservations (for you or for herself, depending on the aranagement between the two of you.) She can also bank or borrow points. I don't believe thaf her husband would have any claim. Anyone? Unless, you deeded the membership over to her, in death, ect. It would be then up to her if she wanted to add her husband on as a member. Is that understandable? Good Luck!
