Possible: last chance to ride Astro Orbitor

That is a good photographer. I'm impressed.

My ds is going to be so sad when the astro orbitor is gone! He loves that stupid thing.

The Tomorrowland version of Dumbo. ;)

That's what I always thought! You may as well ride Dumbo. :confused3 I won't miss it either. My dream is that it will be the start of a New Tomorrowland. pixiedust: All they need to do now is put in a new movie at Star Tours, a new film to replace HISTA, and oh yeah, bring back a new and improved Inner Space! :rotfl: People Movers would be a bonus! :thumbsup2

I never ride them, I always thought they were to similar to dumbo and Id rather ride dumbo. It is sad that they could be leaving though.

DH and I aren't big fans of Astro Orbitor, but our two boys really like the ride. I don't think they'll be devastated if it goes though, as long as something spectacular takes it's place. As typical boys, they like anything thrilling and exciting.:thumbsup2

Now they WOULD be devastated if Star Tours closed down for good. It's one of their favorite rides (and queues too), even though they've been on it 200 times. I bet they would love a new movie in it though. That would be a great surprise for them if it ever happened. (I wouldn't tell them.....we'd just go on the ride like usual, and then......surprise!) :goodvibes :cool1:

I'm in agreement with most here ... the Astro Orbiter was more fun as a kid when it was up high, it's in a weird place now, and it takes forever to get on. But try telling the kids that ...
I get a little motion-sick on circular-motion rides, which is part of why I like DL as opposed to other theme parks where many of the rides do nothing but whirl you in dizzying circles. Astor Orbiter always seemed like it belonged with one of those types of parks.
We went to WDW last September and I saw the flying carpets in their Adventureland. My first thought was, "Why do they need yet another ride like Dumbo and Astro Orbiter?" A little repetitious.

I would also join the petition for a new movie in Star Tours. I was there during the pre-opening test days way back 1986 and have loved it ever since. I'm not sure I could keep it a secret until I got all the way to the ride like Disney Supermom!

"You can't have everything -- besides, where would you put it all?":upsidedow

Oh no! My DD LOVES that ride. It is just our stupid little family tradition that it is our first ride on every trip... Now when we take our new babies it wont be there. What a bummer. :guilty: I DO hate lugging my big ole butt out of it though. ;)

Don't worry, all your DDs and DSs will grow out of it. Soon, they'll bypass such rides for SM and such.

Can't say I'll miss it, either. :wave2: Let's hope they take away the "moon rocks", or whatever they are, that clog up the entrance to Tomorrowland, as well.

i do miss the original Rocket Jets, though. There was something about being so high up off the ground that was so much fun; I remember as a kid I'd look to see if i could locate whatever hotel my family was staying in on Harbor Blvd. ::yes::

Darn..my grandkids loved it. I didn't like the original ones..waaaay to high..freaked me out.

I rode it once and it was ok. I think I'd rather ride Dumbo.

Noting that the previous report was unofficial, so is this latest update:
Al Lutz writes that Astro Orbitor is sticking around, and will eventually be returned to its "proper place" atop the People Mover station.

Personally I would prefer it if the rocket jets returned to their former place, where the Observatron( ) is now. The main problems with the Astro Orbiter is 1)it clogs up the flow of traffic going in and out of Tomorrowland. That area should be more open. 2)the ride is infinitely less thrilling being so close to the ground vs. riding the jets high above Tomorrowland where they used to be.

I totally agree with wishing it would retuen to the old spot. I do hate the log jam too

Dagnabit! I was hoping it was going for real. I get dizzy on it so I always have to beg DD to go on with DS - who loves the stupid thing. :headache:

aahhhh my grandchildren love this ride... it was the first ride they all went on on their first trips to disneyland. this makes me sad.

The Astro Jets were on the ground level originally and near the submarines. It was in 1967 that the Tomorrowland Rockets and in 1994 was returned back to ground level.

I love the ride but you sit flat on the floor and the rockets tip a bit to the inside. I could not get out unlike the bobsleds that have grab bars and a slightly raised seat. If they had an accessible vehicle then I would ride that 10 times a day. Me and my sensory issues lol. I am hoping they add a disabled accessible vehicle like a side that opens up to let guests transfer to the ride.

The new version is a Dumbo type of ride that is not as scary as the older version of which the first one that would go up to 36 feet off of the ground and was based on Panzer turret technology. I love Dumbo so it is great but still nothing like being high in the sky.

My kids love this ride, but not every day or even every trip. They won't wait more than 10 min. for it either. DBF and I do not do this one, rather we sit on the "benches" and wait for them. :) I'm sure they will love it once it repainted and love it even more when it gets moved back up to where it was before. We watched a youtube video of the People Mover and they thought that was the coolest!

I love the one at WDW - except for the lines, the elevator takes forever. I like the view of the park. I'm trying the one at DL in 2 weeks! Not sure I'm going to like the ground location - seems just like Dumbo then :confused3
