Possible insider CC theft at WDW

You said it. Certain merchants seem to be in cahoots with the cc# stealers. It's probably a volume thing...they figure enough people won't notice to make it profiable to accept obviously stolen cards.

That's pretty bold! Might as well lump in everybody that doesn't check ID as well.

In fact I think it was pretty bold to post what you did without any proof.

Honestly, I don't understand why we are being asked for that "security number". If you use the card to check in and it's required that they get that number then won't it be listed in the computer where someone could get that as well? Eventually, that will just be an extension of the other number and won't be a security feature at all.

The 3 digit security number is to prevent theft from a stolen cc number. Like the OP. The cc was not physically stolen, just the number was. When you hand over your cc to a merchant, they do not take down the 3 digit security number.

Someone can find out what my cc # is, but if ALL merchants required them to give the 3 digit number, without the card, they are stumped.

Okay, I get what you are saying, now. I thought you wanted everyone to use that number, even when using the card in person. But, realistically, the person you hand your card to could just look at the back and make a mental note of the three digit code and write it down when you walk away.

hopefully it is'nt a discover card-they are terrible to deal with on this.
We were very happy with Discover when this happened to us. They actually flagged the fraudulent charges immediately and they never went through. They put a hold on our card so that no one could use it until they spoke with us. As soon as they did, our account was cancelled and they immediately sent us a new card (new account).

Exactly. I ordered pizza one time and was paying by CC over the phone. Then they asked for my 3-digit code. Uh, I don't think so. So, I paid by check. Come to find out the last time we had pizza there my DH paid with CC and gave them the 3-digit number. Grrr. Fortunately, nothing bad seems to have happened because of it.

DH had someone do this to his corporate credit card. He stayed at a hotel in Miami and that was the only place he used the card, they had over $15,000 in charges on the card in a matter of hours. Since it was a corporate card, there is no spending limit.

When I travel I use nothing but traveler's checks, cash and a debit card (for car rental only - and then only enough in that account to cover the rental)..

When I went to Disney in April I used a traveler's check to pay for the room.. The prior one nights deposit was made with a debit card that only had enough to cover the room deposit..

Won't go into details here, but the manner in which I carry my traveler's checks, cash and debit card, there's no way I could lose them or have them stolen unless I was severely assaulted - or worse yet, killed.. (A trick I learned from my mom - who also never used CC's.. ;) )

THis has happened with me as well with Disney. I called Disney and ordered MVMCP tickets. Well when I got my bill I also was charged for Cirque tickets as well! I contested this with Discover but after checking it out they said since I actually given my number to Disney for the party tickets that this was not fraud that I had to clear it with Disney. I went through every Disney rep I could find. Each time it looked like it would get taken care of that person either got sick or went on vacation...never to be found again and I had to start over and over

I know where you keep them! LOL If it is the same place my mom "tucked" her money away! :rotfl2:

Do you know if the stores that purchases were made at have self checkouts?

A co-worker of mine and his debit card number stollen. Someone bought an HDTV with it. They believe the guy /gal went to a self checkout and swiped a blank piece of paper through. When it said it couldn't read, apparently he/she was able to just type the numbers in.

Doubtful, as they appear to be small local businesses.

I asked that this thread be closed, I thought it had. Sorry.

Scary stuff. Sounds like that caused it to bypass the PIN check.

Why?? I took this post to be a warning for credit card users to check their bills carefully. I don't see what any said that was out of line.

Yes, I realize that. The OP made things clearer outside this thread and I have apologized for the misunderstanding.
