Possible insider CC theft at WDW

Just got my AAA credit card statement. Loaded with fraudulent charges from Florida to Georgia, beginning just after we flew home from WDW. We only posted the card at WDW CBR front desk and used it nowhere else. We have our cards, they were not lost. We also still have our room key cards.

Two years ago our cc number was stolen around the time of our WDW trip.

We have urged the CC Fraud Department to start their investigation with WDW and look for trends in case they've been hacked or its an inside job or both.

If you were in WDW in late October to early November, read your card statements carefully.

If anyone can suggest who I should alert at WDW, I'd appreciate it.

No, I can't be 100% sure it happened at WDW, but the circumstantial evidence warrants suspicion & investigation.

How close was the 1st charge to WDW. Did you use your card for gas, did you rent a vehicle?

Sorry this happened. Hope you get it straightened out.

Thanks for the warning! I think it's a good idea to use a separate card for check in/charges at WDW.

I hope they find out if it was someone at the resort.

You do realize that people who get your card and take the number don't actually keep the card right?

Of course...not sure what you're getting at. My point was we posted the card at the front desk for all charges and never used it again, since everything went to the room key and we didn't leave property. The card number gets in the system, and could have been stolen from it.

Believe me, I don't want it to be WDW, but the timing & the "geography" of the fradulent charges make it look that way. We live in NJ. All of the merchants are in the South and we have never heard of them.

My purpose is to give folks who were there when we were a heads up to examine their statements in case this is widespread.

Tallahassee, FL.

We flew. We paid cash for everything not charged to the room.

We won't be stuck for the charges...I caught them immediately and am working with the CC company fraud department. I know some folks don't read those statements carefully and this might be a widespread problem.

I also don't understand your comment. My credit card number was stolen while I was on vacation in Chicago. I still had the card, but they were able to charge almost $1,000 before I got my statement. You can buy any number of things online or over the phone without having to present a card to someone.

barbeml,

I was disappointed in my credit card company. They didn't make me pay for any of the charges, but even after I provided them with the name and address of the person who was buying things online with my card number, they decided that it wasn't worth the hassle to prosecute.

hopefully it is'nt a discover card-they are terrible to deal with on this.

i had fraudulent charges made to mine and it took them over a year to clear it up. in the meantime (well after 6 months) they finaly decided to "close" the account to prevent further charging and issued me a new card with a new account number. when they "resolved" the original credit card fraud in my favor, they turned around an put all the fraudulent charges on the new account. after 3 more months of arguing it got resolved and i quit doing buiseness with them.

I had this same thing happen in Lancaster PA. ate lunch paid with card (several years ago wasn't so security smart at the time).Went home on the way stopped for gas in Md paid with same card.
I check my CC on-line everyday (more so as to not be shocked with DW ) the next day posted was Lunch ,Walmart ? ,Exxon.I ask DW did you take my card and go to walmart (behind where we ate) She says no .I call and it was a damaged card transaction (just numbers no card) for 3 prepaid cell phones.5mins after I paid for the gas at the station.
Come to find out the girl at the eaterie was BOX STEALING the CC #'s and giving to an employie ay Walmart and I was not the only 1 or time they were doing it.

This is why I love on-line services they are always availible to you .If I would have waited until paper statement (oh I don't have any of these come anymore)I might have forgot and just thought we stopped at the walmart as we were camping and do that sometimes.

I've had my credit card numbers stolen a couple times. Once was from the ticket booth at DL and I'm sorry to say it was a CM that was linked to it. :(

It took us a while to straighten it out. I hope you have better luck.

Our AAA card (which we use for mostly gas & travel) is through MBNA and they are EXCELLENT with fraud proteciton. The first time the number was stolen (as I said, those charges also started right after a WDW trip), THEY called US because they noticed the charges were unusual: out of state, cell phone companies, a merchant we never used before, high amounts.

And that's why credit card fraud will continue to flourish. Disgraceful.

I wish more merchants would be pro-active against fraud. If everyone REQUIRED the 3-digit number that can only be found in the back of the credit card, it would eliminate a huge portion of cc theft.

Sorry this happened and I hope you get it figured out.

Honestly, I don't understand why we are being asked for that "security number". If you use the card to check in and it's required that they get that number then won't it be listed in the computer where someone could get that as well? Eventually, that will just be an extension of the other number and won't be a security feature at all.

You said it. Certain merchants seem to be in cahoots with the cc# stealers. It's probably a volume thing...they figure enough people won't notice to make it profiable to accept obviously stolen cards.

Merchants who don't play by the rules should be prosecuted too.

Exactly.

It would definitely help in certain transactions that are not face to face. But you're right, if they copy down the 3-digit they've got everything they need.

I read that online transactions are actually the safest (though nothing is 100% safe) because of encryption.
