Possible first stay in a cabin in December?

Have a cruise booked for next year but I just don't feel it happening. So I was thinking about Disneyland as a back up plan, but then I thought about Fort Wilderness for a few shorts nights in December of this year. We have only been to Disney once during December and I admit I need to get back there during that time frame, even for a short trip.

My husband absolutely loves Fort Wilderness. He says its where "his people" are, lol. It is nice, but I have no desire to stay there, but I would not mind doing it for him. I am seriously thinking about three or four nights and a couple park days in early December. He would be so thrilled to go there. So does Disney usually offer any discounts on the cabins? Is there a more preffered loop to be in at a cabin. We would fly so we wouldn't have a car. This is all riding that Disney is open and we would feel safe enough to go. I don't know if I will ever feel safe enough to cruise again.

When we stayed in cabins (May 2019), we were in one of the two cabins in the 100 loop. It is just minutes from Fort Wilderness dining and the marina (boat to the Magic Kingdom), but an internal bus ride to the buses for other parks.

Yep, I do know what those two are. Referred to as the lottery locations. But the odds are sooooo low....lol.

The cabins DO get mentioned in the various discount offers (room only, free dining, etc) that Disney puts out, SL6827, so that might be a possibility post-pandemic if Disney decides to offer those. Cabins are identical and loops not very different (other than # of cabins in them) so main cabin difference is where the loop is and what you want.

People usually talk about various loops as favorites for different reasons. 2800 (nearest the check-in building) is a favorite for those who will bus to the three non-MK parks (the loop is close enough to walk to the Outpost Bus Stop) and by walking avoid waiting for an internal bus (5-10 min walk from the entrance to the loop).

Other folks like 2200 or 2300 because those are the two closest loops to the Meadow Trading Post, main pool, and campfire/singalong/movie area (again, if you're walking).

There are varying opinions on internal buses. In the mornings they run somewhat infrequently starting at about 630am (every 15 minutes or so) and become more frequent as the morning goes on. It can be a long wait if you are trying to rope drop a non-MK park and have to wait for an internal bus, then wait at the Outpost for an external bus to that park. You can do it but to be safe you have to get an early start. Two of the three internal bus lines go through the cabin loops, though, so that helps.

The Fort magic is lost if you don't take the time to enjoy it. Leave a non-park day in your plans to sleep in, walk around the loops, and maybe meet some of the "his kind of people" DIS folks (they sometimes have a green mickey sign out in front of their campsite). Being on this board before your trip will let you discover who is where. We walk by, we say hello, chat for a moment, then go on. How many times do you do that when staying at CBR? Or watch the fireworks from the beach. Sit out on the deck and drink your coffee in the mornings. Or enjoy an adult beverage in the evenings.

In the past when I was in cabin loops I usually requested to be close to the entrance of a loop (some can be a little big) to shorten walks to the internal bus stop. But to each their own. I hope the two of you get a chance to stay in a cabin this fall (campers will have some Christmas decorations up by then so night time "looping" visiting the various loops can be fun).

PS - based on comments here over the years, if you're a theme park warrior who does every day rope-drop to close in the parks, the Fort is not your favorite. People complain about no food court open at midnight when they come in from a EMH evening. The go-go Type A personalities hate waiting for the bus. The Fort simply is what it is.

The Fort is my husband, Coronado Springs Resort is me. But I would like to stay here for him at least once whether it be this year, next or five years from now. I wish we could bring our own golf carts, lol.

If and when you do go, keep an open mind. Wanting to go to appease others might put a downer on a otherwise diffrent type of vacation. Have fun!

We've done the cabins twice over the past several years. Since we had a golf cart with each stay, it made no difference which loop/location we got. If you plan on doing laundry, you may want to consider a loop that is closer to the hospitality/comfort station.

This past spring, we had a 5th wheel trailer dropped onsite at our pad (we don't own an RV or even a truck). It was a great experience with plenty of "legroom"; it even came with a free golf cart for the duration of our stay.
