I am pretty sure like 99% sure that I broke my middle toe. Gracie was chasing my dd around the house, she had her leash still on so I tried to step on it to stop her and only my middle toe caught it and well it cracked and now it hurts like you know what. I can't touch the bone without going through the roof. My kids were actually laughing at me because I was crying like a big baby (I don't like pain) :teeth: .

Anyway do they or can they do anything for a broken toe? DH said I should probably have it x-rayed, but I told him what good would that do, they don't make casts for toes (actually dd brought down the doll bandage that came with her American girl doll, she said it was the perfect size for my toe :lmao: ). I don't want to spend the money to have x-rays and then they say yes it is broken but sorry nothing we can do just let it heal.

ETA: I'm not asking if I should go to the hospital, I'm asking if there is anything they can even do.

Thanks!

As far as I know, they won't do anything for a broken toe.

I've had several during my martial arts career, and yes they hurt like the dickens! They heal in a couple of weeks.

I've had more than one toe broken, and they always just taped it to the toes beside it to give it some support. It really does hurt bad, I know. I hope it's better soon.

They won't do anything for it except tell you to buddy tape it to the next toe for a few weeks and take some Aleve. Can you tell I just broke a toe not too long ago! :teeth: Feel better and wear flip flops! Close toe shoes hurt.

Thanks, that's what I thought.

I'm glad it is summer, cause I can't even imagine stuffing my foot in a shoe :sad2:

DDs just asked me if we could go bowling :lmao: Um, I don't think so, not today :guilty:

Personally I wouldn't go to the hospital/dr for a broken toe. Mainly because just like everyone else, I've always heard they don't 'set' them like they would an arm or a leg. You can tape your toe to another one yourself.

I did it with my toe once and it healed fine but I never did know if I actually broke it or not so it may have been just serverly sprained or something. It did take a long time to heal though.

You can get a special "shoe"--though little blue shoes with velcro. It will keep your foot from flexing and keep the toe straight. Other than that there is nothing that can be done.

and take some Advil/Tylenol. That's all the hospital will do besides charge you an arm and a leg.

No toe casts or splints. Sorry.

I disagree with all of the posters who said you cannot do anything. I just had surgery b/c I broke my toe so many times that I could not wear shoes anymore!! The doctor told me that if I had gone to him he could have given me an anti inflamitory and even though they only tape it you need to do it the right way. I did NOT do it the right way and so 4 weeks ago I need to get it straighted and a bone chip removed. I STILL cannot wear shoes. It is better safe than sorry.

That's what I want to avoid. Our copay is ridiculous, and other than telling me something I already know, I was pretty sure there was nothing else that could be done. The taping the toes together is a good idea, I'll try that as soon as I can touch it. Who knew a toe would hurt so much! :guilty:

Just tape it to the toe next to it and take lots of pain killers.
That's what I did when I broke my toe, it healed fine.
Also, an alcoholic beverage to go w/ the painkillers couldn't hurt..

Oh Lesa the problems you have. Tape it to the one next to it, take some Tylenol and be glad you aren't going to be the one driving home this weekend. See you Saturday!!

Just tape the toe to the other toes and support it with a tongue depresser. Years ago, I broke my big toe. I went to an Urgent care, waited for three hours and they slapped on tape and a tongue depresser and charged me close to $400.
