Portofino or Castle?

Hey all!

Booking a last minute (well, three weeks out) trip and having a hard time deciding where to stay as our usual options are all booked solid. Trying to decide between Portofino and the Castle. I always heard the Castle was kind of a dump, but it looks like it recently underwent a major renovation?

We'll be in the parks open to close and only staying 2 nights, so we basically just need somewhere clean and comfortable to walk to and from. We'll have our car but plan on leaving it parked there during our stay.

We'll be coming directly from a week long cruise, so trying to do this on the cheap. Any opinions are much appreciated!

Castle no doubt between the two.

Remember there are hotel shuttles to/from Disneyland too,
so it doesn't hurt to expand the radius.

For folks really looking to this on the cheap. The Motel 6's are
decent in the area for a room, bath, hot water, etc.

Also Alamo Inn usually is less than the others nearby.
Does alright as a last minute, no frills place to stay on Katella.

Haven't stayed at Portofino, but spent a week at the Castle earlier this month. Comfortable, clean and friendly, and not too much of a walk to the Parks or breakfast options on the way. Wifi was great, especially as I only had a very small data plan as an international traveler. Never had a problem with it the whole time I was there. Free parking, too - there seemed to be quite a few spaces free, although I didn't pay too much attention as I didn't have a car.

I will say that the bathroom had a few dark spots in the grout, and the bath tap was a little loose on the wall, but it wasn't really a problem to me and it was cleaned everyday before I came back to the room for my afternoon break.

Castle was my go-to for many many years (probably 6 or 7) but it started getting old and smelly, un explained patches of water on the carpets (no drips so had to be seeping from below) and twice there was no hot water so I had to move along.

But it seems to have been renovated so perhaps it's worth a shot. You can't beat it for convenience and bare necessities. I agree - you don't need fancy and features when you're there.
