I have chaged my reservation and we now have a deluxe room at Portofino reserved (not club level).

What should I request if I want
a) Bay View
b) Balcony?

Thank you so much if you can help! I've asked a question similar to this before but I am still confused (it doesn't take much!).

You can request exactly what you stated here: Bayview with a balcony. The majority of deluxe rooms overlook the Villa Pool. Good luck with your requests! :flower:

Thanks, Jessica! Are there only very few deluxe rooms overlooking the bay? The ones which do overlook the bay, where are they situated?

Thank you so much for your help.

To be honest in all the times we have stayed in a dlx at Portofino, it has never been a bayview. If they do exist it would be in the east or west wing. Most of the dlx rooms are in the villa wing with a few I know of in the west wing overlooking the beach pool.

Once we did stay in a VillaSuite and the room was a deluxe and did overlook the bay (no balcony but floor to ceiling windows) but I am not sure they use those rooms w/o booking the villa parlor that attatches. RyGuy...you know??

If it were me I would decide which is most important, the bayview or the deluxe room or/and the balcony and go from there.
Portofino is probably the most difficult layout to figure out!

This info was found on the Loews website and describes the views attatched to a deluxe room:

Deluxe Rooms
These elegantly appointed accommodations feature an even larger living space, plus a separate tub and shower in a stylish and roomy bathroom. Additional amenities include VCP (video cassette player) and surround sound system with CD player. You'll have a view of the serene Villa Pool and surrounding gardens or the dramatic Roman aqueduct styled, water slide - 490 square feet

Thanks again! I think we will be happy wherever our room is, but it would sure be nice to have a balcony over the bay :cloud9:

I agree, Portofino Bay is like a maze....it is so confusing, but I think that adds to the theming and style of the hotel :sunny:

So, now I know what we'd like to request, how do I send in the request?! Fax? Email? Phone?

Thanks again :wizard:

Deluxe bay view rooms with balconies mostly connect to villa suites. They are very limited and are usually used in conjuncton with the suites. There are some bay view deluxes in the part of the villa wing that overlook the bay but none have full balconies. You may find one or two with a stepout.

Frances,
I just got back from PBH. I too had been extremely confused about what to request. I had originally requested a deluxe king with a balcony that has a view of the bay. I requested this when I made the reservation on the phone. I then faxed the request a few days before arriving. I even specified six rooms that I got as recommendations from this forum. We did not get any of them. I was there over Memorial Day weekend so I'm not surprised. They originally put us in a deluxe with a patio overlooking the villa pool. It was also a handicapped room. Long story short, I was very disappointed and realized how much I really longed for a view of the bay. It's such a pretty and romantic view. The staff was super. My husband and I went down to the lobby and very kindly expressed our disappointment. They suggested a switch to a bay view room on the East side. I was hesitant because I had heard how very far away the East side rooms were from everything. This in my opinion is not true at all. I am so glad we took the room. We LOVED the bay view and we got a step out balcony! There put a couple folding chairs that were in the closet out there, had our coffee out there in the morning, and stepped out constantly to see what was going on in the harbor piazza. Our room was 1364. As soon as we took the elevators down, we stepped right on to the Harbor Piazza. This is where all the action takes place. The restaurants and shops, and the Opera singing going on right now every evening at 8:00 - it all takes place here. I personally thought it was a terrific location.

Thank you! What was the deluxe with the patio overlooking the villa pool like? How large is the patio? Are there table/chairs?

Sorry you didn't get your request - when you changed rooms were you downgraded to a regular room with bay view then, with the smaller bathroom? I would prefer the deluxe room without bay view than standard with, but I am really hoping for a deluxe bay view (I know it's unlikely :( )

Thanks for your help.

Well, as I said, the first room was disappointing. It was a deluxe with a patio but it wasn't an inviting patio. There were lots of large shrubs around it so you couldn't really see the villa pool and there were no chairs out there. The most disappointing thing was the bathroom. Although this was a deluxe it did not have the typical deluxe bathroom everyone raves about. This is because it was a handicapped room which I didn't need because we're not handicapped. It only had one sink and it only had a walk in shower.

The second room was terrific. It was a Bay View room. The difference between this and a deluxe is the bathroom. The deluxe bathroom is bigger because it has a shower and a seperate tub. The Bay view still has the two sinks, the marble counters, the tile around the mirror. It has a traditional bathtub with shower within. This is only my personal opinion but I would rather have the beautiful bay view especially if you have a balcony to enjoy it on which we did. I would take this over a seperate tub anyday but again this is just what's more important to me. I'm not one to soak in the tub on these park vacations anyway. I'm more likely to go sit in the hot tub with the jets in the evening. Again, hope this helps.

We must have been so lucky in February. We got an APH rate at Portofino for bay view room. We were automatically upgraded to Deluxe before arrival. We got a Deluxe bay view room with huge balcony. :flower:

TracyK,

I'm curious to know which wing and floor your room was in/on? Also, what was the view? Do you remember the room number?

We were in the West Wing on the top floor. Our room number was 3557. The view was of the bay.

I figured that was where you were but I just wanted to make sure. You got very lucky getting one of the few deluxe rooms on the top floor of the west wing. You had one of the connecting rooms to a villa parlor that everyone is itching to get. Did you like the covered balcony?

We were really pleased with the room and the location and couldn't complain at the $139 APH rate. I would have liked a more open balcony but it was lovely on a cool Feb evening. We fell in love with the place. :sunny:
