Portable wheelchair - what size rental car?

DD has a Convaid portable wheelchair. We will be flying to CA and possibly renting a car for part of the trip. Any thoughts on the size car we will need? We drive an SUV at home, so haven't given it much thought before. Would like to keep it as small as possible because of cost and parking in the city. TIA!

The Convaid "stroller"-type wheelchair folds fairly compactly, so assuming you have that model I believe it should easily fit into pretty much any car trunk. What size vehicle would be determined by how many passengers and keep in mind the amount of other luggage as well. If it's just the 2 of you, even a compact car could work (using the backseat plus the trunk) but I would be more comfortable in an intermediate.

We easily place chairs in the back of Chrysler 200, and have placed an ECV in the back of a Nissan Sentra. Often the price from a smaller car to the intermediate is only a few dollars.

I can't speak to the size of your chair because I'm not familiar with it, but I can say it does vary some even within a size category.

For example, last time I rented a car we were planning on using a Dodge Caliber, but once we got there is was apparent that the chair would not fit. We picked another car in the same size category (PT Cruiser), and the chair fit easily.
