Can you bring portable DVD players on the plane with you as a carry on? We are flying midwest and I looked at their restrictions and I didn't see anything about DVD players.
Yes, you can take portable DVD players through security and use them while in flight (not during take-off or landing). You MAY be asked to remove them from your carry-on bags for extra screening; the rules don't require it, technically, but different airports and even individual screeners apply different interpretations. I don't think Midwest has any power ports on their planes, however, so use will be limited to the battery life.
Just check your battery life. Some of the cheap (A/R) units are lucky to have enough battery for one movie. You can buy an external battery if you need to extend the play time.
