Am I going to have to take it out to go thru security - like my laptop??

I'm getting nowhere searching for this. I just want to know if I need to keep it near the top of the bag. :confused3

Thanks!!

I think you do. I stopped taking mine and just take my laptop now.
You can't use any electronics until told to though, including the portable DVD players.

Yes, just put it in a separate bin to avoid having to deal with the possible extra screening if it goes through the x-ray. Honestly, it's NOT "required", but there is always the possibility that it will trigger extra scrutiny. Just put it in a separate bin and most likely you will sail through.

Thanks :thumbsup2

We have a couple long flights coming up. I really dont want to take my laptop, but I don't mind the little DVD player. I wont be heart-broken if something happens to it.

We have taken one every year for the last 7 years and have never had to take it out like a lap top. if you have it in a bag, the worse that will happen is they will ask you to take it out after the scan...no worries....

From the TSA:
Effective August 4, 2007, laptop computers, full-size video game consoles (for example Playstation®, X-box®, or Nintendo®), full-size DVD players, and video cameras that use video cassettes must be removed from their carrying cases and submitted separately for x-ray screening. Laptop computers and video cameras that use cassettes have long been subject to this policy.
What Needs to be Screened Separately

* Laptops
* Full-size video game consoles
* Full-size DVD players
* Video cameras that use video cassettes
* CPAP breathing machines

Small and portable electronic items do not need to be removed from their carrying cases.

Well, I learned something today.

I have flown at least 6 times and have never taken out my portable DVD player and no one has asked me to.

I think it depends on the airport and the screeners. The local airport that I fly out of is smaller and they make us take everything out -- laptops, dvd players. One year my son took along his Ihome which is a speaker system/charger for his Itouch, kept in his cinchsack and we got called on it and they had to run the special wand over it.

When we've flown back from Orlando and San Diego we've kept the electronics in our bags and no one has said anything.
