Here are the sides of the boat that face the ports along the Western Itinerary. Can anyone add the Eastern sides to this?

Key West: Starboard (right) side
Grand Cayman: Starboard side
Cozumel: Port (left) side
Castaway Cay: Although the port side faced the port, the best view was from starboard since you could see most of the island from that side

In conclusion, the best port views were available from the starboard side - hope this helps in planning your room requests! :)

We were on the Magic for the Eastern Itinerary in January of 2002.

At St Martin -
Port side was against the dock, starboard side didn't have much of a view.

At St Thomas -
Port side was against the dock, starboard side had a view of the harbor.

At Castaway Cay -
Port side was against the dock, starboard had a view of the Island. The shipped back in. The port side had a great view of the rest of the ocean.

I'm also wondering if they always pull into a port or if they sometimes back into it. I only have the experience of one seven day cruise, so I don't know about this.

hope that helps

Jim, hope you're right! We're on Starboard for the 7/6.
Al, that's how it was for us on the 7/7 last year, 'cept CC was the opposite. So Captain probably decides when he gets there(?) I preferred the view of the island at CC - especially during that helicopter rescue. Made it kinda exciting (no offense intended to the heart attack patient :( )

I know this makes me sound like a goof..but... our room is 5130 is that port or starboard I am confused! Ann

Ann,

You're port (left) side - aft (back of the ship).

Thanks jim, although I wish you had told me I was starboard as we are doing western this time and I guess my veranda will have lousy views,, oh well

We too have a port side cabin for our 9/14 cruise. We have decided that we are going to order a room service dinner and watch the Key West sunset from our varanda. Just a private party for two old cruisers. This will be our fourth Magic cruise and we have never had room service except for breakfast. With our luck it wll be cloudy, we will miss the sunset and the good company of our dinner mates but that is our plan for now.:jester: :Pinkbounc

That is one excellent reason for having a port-side cabin on the Western Itinerary - being able to watch the sunset from your verandah in Key West.

I'm sure there are many others and who knows - they may port in a different direction at some of the other ports...

I didn't think of the sunset, that could be cool to sit and watch! ok, port side will not be so bad after all!:D
