With our first trip, it was the only moderate resort available and living 30 miles from the real New Orleans I was a little reluctant. Also the fact that the restaurants serve "Cajun" food was not too inviting as we ARE Cajun (well DH and kids anyway but hey, I've been married to the man and cooking his dinner for 22 years, I say that makes me honorary!) and would definitely be disappointed if the food was a poor imitation. Boy was I wrong! It was beautiful. The grounds, the room. So peaceful and quiet. We love Ol' Man Island, the main pool area and the quiet pools around each building were perfect for relaxing around at night.
We went to the main restaurant on our second day (again skeptically) and were pleasantly surprised. I'll never get used to Minute Rice but the gumbo was great and the etoufee was excellant. (Not as good as mine you understand.) We even met the chef (who is from Louisiana) who came to our table and he and DH spent 15 minutes trying to find out if they had mutual relatives/friends.
We went back a couple of years later and are going back during Mardi Gras this coming February.
You will not be disappointed! Have a wonderful time, cher!
