Hi, I wondered if some people who have been to port orleans riverside could tell me how they liked it how the bus systems were etc. anything would be great! I just booked there but I am getting cold feet since my mom was talkign about a place called dixie landings and that they didn't like it turns out port orleans riverside was formerly named dixie landings. I switched from the WL because I am paying half what I would there and really don't want to strap myself, I'm paying cash up front:-)
thanks for your replies please do so soon so I can change to a diff. hotel if I need to!

We stayed there last March (10-17th) and had a great time. Specifically as to the busses, I don't think there was a time we did not get on a bus with in 10 minutes. The only time it was difficult to get a bus back was at park closing, and there was the usually mad dash for the busses. We stayed in building 14, so we were at the main bus terminal, and in the mornings they would stop at the other 3 to pick up a few passangers. Also when we went French Quarter was not yet reopened. I believe that others have reported that the buses first go to FQ, but if you want a great answer go over to the Transportation board, and post the question for Tyler (he operates a bus at WDW).

We had a great time at POR, but perhaps if you are really concerned about the bus, you could switch to FQ. I have never been there to comment. You know we always go with a relaxed expectations. If the bus is there great, if not Florida weather is always better than ours!!!

Check with Tyler!!!

ok thanks! which hotel are you going to on your next trip. I'd be happy at any of the moderates! I did request a room in one of the mansions. About how long does it take to get to Magic kingdom, epcot and animal kingdom one you are picked up? I just want to make sure we will LOVE this hotel! it's cheaper for disney but this vacation is still costing a lot of money so I want it to be perfect!
thanks
Becky

Becky, Paige and Hailey,
We stayed at POR in May for three nights and really liked it. We were in Bldg. #38 in the Alligator Bayou area. It was nice, right next to the creek (with lots of turtles and ducks, which my kids loved looking for each morning), close to the bus stop and not too far from the main pool at Riverside and the Main building with the General Store, restaurants and the boat launch--to go to FQ and Downtown Disney (just a couple minutes walk). The difference between the Alligator Bayou buildings and Magnolia Bend Mansions are that the Alligator Bayou does NOT have elevators (the Mansions do), Bayou has exterior hallways, and some of the Bayou rooms have a trundle bed in addition to the two double beds, which are good for kids under 5 feet tall. The room decor is rustic in the Bayou rooms, and the Magnolia Bend rooms have a more quaint, classic New Orleans decor. We felt that the lush atmosphere of the Bayou section is definitely relaxing.
We had no problems catching the busses...never really waited longer than 5-7 minutes for the one we needed each day. On the way back from the parks (EPCOT, MGM and MK...we did not go to AK or the water parks while staying at POR), it was a little bit of a wait at the end of the night, no longer than taking the bus back to any of the other resorts. The longest trip was back from MK, and that was no more than 15 minutes. The busses DO pick up from the Riverside area before heading over to the French Quarter area, and drop off the same way.
Needless to say, we enjoyed our stay, ::yes:: and will definitely stay there again. ::yes:: Hope this info helps. Enjoy your trip!

I don't think you will be disappointed...the rooms are remodeled ...we go quite often and we usually pick PO over the other hotels...

Have a great trip!

Becky,
Our next two trips we are staying at Saratoga, and Broadwalk(in March and April), but like I said, we really enjoyed POR. I think we spent 15-20 minutes actually getting to WDW depenfing on stops. But not a big problem for us. If you want less than that, you really have to stay at a monorail hotel. Good luck with your trip.

I have stayed in the Mansions twice (and hope to again next month). The Mansions have outside hallways - not inside hallways. (Not sure about elevators as I don't recall seeing them there.) My DH and I love the relaxing atmosphere of the resort and the lush landscaping. We always rent a car so I don't know about the buses. I am sure you will have a great time!!

I am staying there in three weeks. I cant believe it is finally three weeks away and I have requested a room in the Mansions. I guess I have seen Gone with the Wind one Too many times. But I will be happy anywhere as long as I am at Disney. I have read several posts about POR and the only real complaint that I have read it that it is spread out more then POFQ. But I dont mind because my kids and I dont mind a leasurely stroll back to the room.

STAYED THERE IN 2000 and LOVED IT!!!!
We stayed in the Alligator Bayou part, building sixteen I think. We basically had a pool to ourselves, were reasonably close to buses and meal center, and we love the private, secluded atmosphere. Its also fun to take the boat to downtown disney.

I never had a problem with busses leaving the resort, but they can get crowded leaving the parks at closing times.

One last tip-order PRALINES from the food court bakery. They are awesome.

We just got back, was great.
Stayed in Magnolia Bend mansions, very nice.

Suggestions:
Use the bus stop by your room versus the main stop. In the morning you will probably get a seat versus having to stand because the buses are full when they get to the front of the resort.

At night, when coming back from Magic Kingdom and the lines are HUGE for Riverside. Jump on the French Quarter bus (line always was shorter) and just walk, it's a very nice walk along the water. Not too long either.

Consider sharing meals from the food court. Even the kids chocolate pancakes fed myself and my son. The four of us would just order two meals and share them, had plenty of food. The pizza is great! The meatball sub is great. The pancakes were great. So were the cinnamon rolls!!

If you have a chance listen to the piano player in the lounge in the evenings. He is awesome, crowd participation.

Waterslide is fun. My 5 year old didn't want to get off. If you need a lifejacket for the kids, they are free for the duration of your trip. Just stop at the boat shop and check it out, then return it before you leave, no deposit, just bring your room card.

Glad to see another WI fan. We drove, straight through, made it in under 22 hours!!

Have fun!!!

This is really me, that was an old sign in. Trying to get rid of it. Sorry...

I stayed there for 8 days last Nov. and loved it. Have to agree with most posters reports as stated above. The resort is lovely and serene. Each area is beautifully landscaped. I stayed in the Magnolia Terrace Mansion and loved it. It was a short walk to the pool (not more than 2 to 3 minutes) and maybe another 2 minutes to the main bldg/food court. I used all the amentities and can't complain about anything (did laundry, swam in quiet pool/main pool, sat in hot tub, ordered drink at pool bar, had pizza delivered to room, ate in food court and sit down restaurant, saw Bob's show in the lounge, took boat to DTD, shopped and picked up packages from resort shop, rented bicycle, had a lot of fun).

As for the buses, there were one or two small incidents which I'll get to in a minute. First off when I was there last year, FQ was still be remodeled so we didn't have to share the bus. Now FQ is back open and they are the first picked up and dropped back off before pickups begin at RS. Now when I waited at the main bus stop in the front, bus waits for only 5 to 10 minutes at best, maybe an occasional 15 minute wait. Now the back bus stops behind the rooms were running a bit different. I waited one time for the MK bus for nearly 35/40 minutes (almost late for a PS) and another time for MGM bus for 30 minutes. All other buses that I caught back there with those 2 exceptions ran about every 15 minutes. Now if you would ask would I catch the buses from back there again, sure but I now know that if I have a PS and am running 45 minutes before PS, I'll catch the bus at the main stop in front. Also, it can take a little bit to make it to Typhoon Lagoon as bus is shared with DTD during the day and you have to stop at first 2 bus stops before going to Typhoon Lagoon (ride took almost an hour but driver was very sweet and we had a wonderful talk).

I don't think you'll regret staying at PORS. WL is wonderful but so is PO.

We own at DVC but still miss PORS, our former WDW preferred resort. We are staying in February for a few days just to get our "fix" before heading to OKW.
Magnolia Bend DOES have elevators and DOES have outside hallways. We have also stayed in Alligator Bayou. Although the buildings look completely different on the outside, the rooms are basically the same, except for decor.
We usually visit the food court at least once while at WDW, even when we are staying in a DVC property. There is a pretty good selection of basic food (DH loves the taco salads) and prices are reasonable.
Everyone's tastes and priorities are different, but for us PORS is a great resort at a moderate price. Good luck!
Hope you are going when you can take advantage of discount codes!

wow, i'm feeling A LOT better! thanks for all the hints!!! I request a mansion room cuz they look so beautiful!

How do I delete my old countdown to change it to por!
