Port Orleans Riverside Royal Rooms Air conditioning

Can anyone please tell me about the air conditioning in the Royal rooms.
I'm asking because of respiratory problems and any mold would be an issue for catching pneumonia.

Do the rooms have a wall thermostat?
Were the rooms cool when you checked in? (air conditioning on)
Do they (maids staff) shut the air conditioning off when the room is vacant.

Do the rooms get hot when you leave them for the day
because the thermostat automatic (room sensors)

I'm getting a VIP deep cleaning and now worried if they shampoo the rugs that the dampness will never dry or if others who had that room and requested a shampooing if the carpet was left wet , so wet that it soaks to the padding underneath that's also a breeding place for mold and you can't get rid of that. But if housekeeping after a deep cleaning puts the a/c low the air will not have the humidity and will efficiently dry the rug. Humidity in the air is very hard for a wet surface to dry... Wondering if anyone has had a deep cleaning with bad mold allergies in a Moderate setting and had no issue, or did...

I don't see any replies yet, so I'll chime in. Stayed at POR many times, including in the Royal rooms. Mansion rooms used to have under-the-window AC units and no thermostats. I do not know if they have switched POR over to the wall thermostats with motion sensors.

Our last trip we stayed at different moderate (CSR) in room with wall thermostat w/motion sensor. The thermostat was a source of confusion for us. When we would get back from a day at the park, the room was hot and stuffy and thermostat said temp was 73. Even though it was set to cool to 70, the AC would not be running. I'd turn it down to 67, AC would come on and we would go to bed. The next morning the room would be significantly cooler, but thermostat would say the temp had only gone from 73 to 71, and it felt like much more than a 2 degree difference. It was the same thing every night, warm and stuffy, but cool by morning. I wish I had a thermometer to see exactly what the temperature was in the room.

It took us a few days to realize it was a consistent pattern and not a fluke. Either the thermostat was broken, and/or the motion sensor was keeping the AC off during the day. I suppose it's also possible that mousekeeping was manually shutting off the AC during the day, or it was on some sort of a timer.

We never bothered complaining about it, because we hardly spent any time in the room, and although it was flaky, the AC did work when we got back to the room at night. But if I was going with a respiratory issue, I would definitely request that facilities disable the motion sensor/put the thermostat into a mode where you could set it such that it would stay on during the day and not let the room get too hot.

I don't remember the thermostat in the risk rooms, or the regular rooms for that matter, but I do remember the royal rooms not having ceiling fans. I think there is a chandelier instead. One of our favorite things about Disney hotels is a ceiling fan.

I haven't stayed in the Royal Rooms at POR but in the standard rooms we had under the window aircon unit and it wasn't motion sensored. I think I only had one or two days where the aircon was switched off while I was out of the room but mostly it stayed lovely and cool so it was great during my September afternoon breaks but by the evening it was often a little too chilly and I either switched the aircon down or slept in a big jumper and socks.

Not sure about the Royal Rooms at POR but the regular room we were in had the AC under the window with no motion sensor.....but that was last year.

We were there in May and our room was always cool when we returned from the parks for a mid day break.

I stayed in a Royal room October 2014. The AC was never shut off when we left for the day, and the room was cool both when we checked in and when we returned from the parks in the evening. From memory, I believe there was a wall thermostat. I hope that helps.

For the rug and padding issue, perhaps you could call them and explain that mold is your specific health concern and could they please make sure each layer is thoroughly dried. I think they bring fans in to dry the carpet, because it is thick carpet that would take a long time to dry otherwise. I have seen fans drying the carpet through open hotel room doors, but I don't know what that was for- as in a VIP cleaning or routine cleaning or if something spilled, etc.

I believe all POR rooms still have the wall unit AC under the window. One year we stayed at CSR instead of POR, and I recall the AC being different since CSR has a thermostat with motion sensor as mentioned. The motion sensor is what the resorts are moving to (over time), and it will actually shut off the AC when there is no movement in the room when you're out or sleeping. A lot of people don't care for this, and there are actually override workarounds you can find online.

This is what I am remembering also when we staying in a royal room in Nov 2013. I remember there being a wall thermostat and it was not motion censored- we always adjusted it when coming back from the parks.

All POR rooms have the under window units. They did replace them with a newer type of unit when they renovated the rooms. And yes many times we have gotten rooms where they cleaned the carpet and it was still damp or we had to wait for our room until as late as 7pm due to them trying to dry it. The housekeepers do not turn the air off after cleaning the room. The rooms have never seemed to hot to us when we check in.

Of the moderates I prefer the AC system at CSR over all the others. I don't like the window units.

Sorry but it is impossible to escape the humidity problems in Florida.

I don't know your medical issues so don't know if this info is helpful, but my DD has serious mold allergies (in addition to others- pet dander, leaf/grass/tree, etc.) and has never had an issue when we stay at Disney hotels. We usually stay value or moderate. DD's allergies can be pretty bad- she travels with a special pillow cover, her own blanket, an allergy-barrier sheet to put down on the bed, carries her albuterol inhaler, and has a mask she can wear if needed. She never needs the inhaler or mask at Disney; in fact, her allergies seem better while she's there, with the air conditioned air, than they are at home.
