Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2014 (Please read first post for FAQs!)

I was just looking at the 360 photos on portorleans.org (thanks btw!) and noticed the AB rooms have very little to no drawer space.

Are there three drawers below the fold down bed or are those faux drawers?

Also, has anyone found it helpful to bring one of those closet organizers to hang off the closet rod in the bathroom?

We just got home last night late from our week at POR and I miss it already. We were in Oak Manor Garden view, which ended up being a longer walk than I would have chosen' but the Royal Room more than made up for it. Even my hubby loved it. His first comment was that it was what a Disney room should be. Even though they were working the whole time, we never heard construction noise. We were super close to the quiet pool and though there were posted hours, people were swimming well past midnight on most nights. After staying our last trip at POP it felt like going home to be at POR again.

This is my very first post on Disboards. :)

I first have to say that PortOrleans.org has been completely indispensable in planning my trip to POR. I have been using it for months and just made the connection that Andre & Venom are the same people who run that site. I tip my cap to the two of you. It's wonderful.

My best friend and I would really like to stay in the Alligator Bayou section and plan on making a request via fax. I understand that making individual building requests can be tough, but I've seen several pictures of buildings by this pretty swamp area and I'd love to stay in that section of the Bayou. Does anyone know what buildings are near that? It seems to be about 3 or 4 buildings. I know it's an absolutely crazy question, but it never hurts to ask, right?

That's good to hear about the construction. :thumbsup2

Welcome to the DISboards! Yes, portorleans.org is my site, and I'm glad you have found it useful. (Venomhatch helps people out a lot here on the DISboards by the way, but he's not connected with the running of portorleans.org).

To be honest, many of the AB buildings are near to some sort of swap feature, could you perhaps show us some pictures of the area that has taken your fancy so we can try to narrow it down for you?

When making faxed requests, it's often a good idea to explain what you want from a room (e.g. "overlooking one of the themed swamp/stream areas") rather than just giving a building number (which might result in you getting that building, but with a different type of view).

We just returned home from our week at POR. The information here was so helpful to me, that I wanted to share some of our experience.

  1. We faxed a request about 5 days before our arrival. We were delighted that they were able to accommodate all of them.
  2. We were in building 17 and found that our location seemed to be equally between the South and West bus depots. During our stay, the bus picked up at the West depot first. It seemed to be the best location to get on and off for our location and circumstances.
  3. We used the ferry from POR to DTD several times. The line can get very long at the dinner time hours. We took the bus during these times.
  4. The laundry facilities (by bldg 17) don't have a place to sit. We sat at the pool. The sign says that the dryer runs for 30 minutes, but it actually runs for an hour.
  5. It took us a day or so to find the best routes to take around the resort. Using the map they give you can help you avoid taking the long way around. --speaks from experience. ;)

Thank you to everyone for sharing your tidbits of information too.

POR is beautiful. I miss her already.

Just realized I will be checking in in 11 days and that pretty soon I can send in my fax request form. I'm so excited to be returning to POR.

Awesome! Have a great trip! I'm sure it will be a long 11 days for you, but I'm sure it will fly by. :yay:

POR is beautiful. I miss her already.

We just checked out of POR yesterday and I have to say I was HIGHLY impressed! When we checked in, we were informed that we had been upgraded to a Royal Room, pool/river view, from a garden view! :cool1: We were in Oak Mansion, room 9281. It was gorgeous! :goodvibes The grounds of the resort are beautiful and it was a very short walk to the lobby and bus stops. Buses did not take long...standard 10-20 minute wait for them.

When we were informed of the upgrade, the resort clerk said she knew we had requested a ground floor, corner room, so I know they do take requests into consideration. We did online check-in. I gladly gave up our initial requests for the upgrade!:)

Oh wow! I know we can't plan on getting a upgrade but it's nice to know it might happen. :cool1:

You never know! I was truly shocked! We have never received an upgrade. It was my DS's 16th birthday, so it was definitely some pixie dust for his special trip! :)

DH and I have a Royal Room w/garden room booked. But my brother and family have a standard room w/garden view booked.

We will be celebrating 4 birthdays this trip and I was going to send the fax asking that we be as close as possible. So I was going to request the Oak and Magnolia buildings, since those are next to each other and one is a Royal Room building.

Maybe they'll sprinkle a little pixie dust on us and upgrade my brother's family!

That would be such a nice surprise for them.

Obviously I'm not going to bank on this, but it's nice to know it could happen!

Here's wishing your brother's family much pixie dust! pixiedust:

Thanks for the list, which I'm STILL going thru.....there's a lot of info there. We'll be making our FIRST visit to POR on 5/28! DW actually chose it, over getting two rooms at POP (like we did last time. We've done POP for the last three stays, and it's time for a little something different). They didn't have any standard views available, so we've got a garden view. LP (littlest princess) will be turning 2 at the end of the trip, so she'll probably be staying in the Pack N Play (we can either use theirs or bring our own) - that is, unless she sleeps with mom! LOL Looking forward to a great stay! But, what advice can you give me on using our room to our best advantage (with it being us 4 + LP) ?
We'll be driving, so the buses won't be as big of a deal to us (unless we split up in the parks during the day). :cool1:

We are booked in a royal room for October! Had to cancel our anniversary trip in March because of illness, but hoping for another chance in October! Our two youngest (not very young though) kids will be with us and they both also thought the rooms were really neat! Of course I think I like them the most!!!

This is what we woke up to last Saturday on our room door. Thankfully the kids saw it and shut the door right away! Boy- this little guy can jump FAR!
I miss POR already!
