Port Orleans - Riverside or French Quarter

My husband and I are planning a trip in May to Disney. We are considering Port Orleans. Which is better with a 5 year old DH - Riverside or French Quarter. Any suggestions for room requests. Thanks

For me, no comparison...FRENCH QUARTER!
I've stayed at both and would go back to FQ. However, it's currently closed for renovation and I'm not sure about an opening date - you might not have the option.

joats, how come? Is it the size of the resort? We have toured FQ, had lunch and used the big pool, but never stayed onsite. It looks like a great resort, but my wife loves POR. I would try it.

For DH & I it's the size of the resort and the theming that makes us love it! And that lovely ride to DTD, but you can do that at POR, too. It was also the first place we stayed together, so with have a sentimental attachment.

We've stayed at both POR and POFQ. Both are great but French Quarter is my number one pick.

Have they officially re-opened French Quarter for May? Last I heard it wasn't official yet. I'd love to book there for June.

Any word on if or when they might consider re opening the restaurant there???

I may be mistaken, but isn't the French Quarter undergoing renovations until 2005? If so, I guess your decision between the two has already been made!

For the record, though, I enjoyed the French Quarter much more when my wife and I went a few years ago. Much more intimate than (what was) Dixie Landings. As far as going with kids, I would have to say Riverside.

If convenience to all parts of the resort is your main concern French Quarted is good. I liked the room decore (which is changing at this moment) and the walk to the amenities but I find the theme not really well excecuted and a bit bland. French Qaurter is my leasat favorite of the 4 moderates. I love Riverside though and was a huge fan of the Alligator Bayou section and not much excited about the mansion homes until I stayed there last year. It truley feels like you are staying in someones giant estate home. Alligator Bayou is great for the forest and ponds and rural feeling. The walks can be a bit longer to the main section of the resort but there are 4 quiet pools and the main themed pool where as at French quarted there is just the one main pool. I like the food and atmosphere at the food court at Riverside better too. French Qaurter is nice and still much better than staying off site and it is really nice to have a short walk to get food and drink but the theme is just not as well done.
