While many of Disar's do not like the CBR layout, I have always love the Caribbean Beach layout. I have stayed in POR awhile back (maybe 12yrs ago). I never went back because of the layout. I thought the resort was very spread out. Am I wrong, did I miss something? I have a standard room, they were the only rooms available with free dining.
Can you please tell me why you love POR and why you prefer it rather then other resorts especially CBR.
What standard room do you prefer.

Thank You
I value all opinions!

We stayed in the mansions section and really loved the atmosphere. You could walk over the bridges to get to the main building/food court, I thought the walk wasn't bad at all. We never stayed at CBR but we did stay in the Ranchos at CSR and the walk to the main building was really far so we rarely went over there. We were near the end of the mansions close to POFQ, it was actually better to take the bus back to POFQ and walk over to our room to avoid the ginormous bus lines for POR at the end of the day.

I have stayed in CSR and thought it was not a bad walk to the main building. I do not know why I am so hesitant about POR?

I've stayed at both POR and CBR, am booked at CSR this coming Sept. I was in the Magnolia Mansion at POR, it was perfect. I could either walk over the bring to the main buildings or go the other way and go through the pool area, 6 of one half dozen of the other. I found the resort very peaceful and got up every morning and did my early morning jog/walk around the entire property and over to POFQ. I never found any of the locations very far but like I said I went around the entire resort every morning so I'm a walker. At CBR we were in the Jamaica section, again just walk across the bridge and through the pool area to the food court. Found it very peaceful and again I got up early mornings and did my walk (can't jog any more since I blew out my knees). I found a few more secluded spots at CBR to do my yoga in but really loved the little gazebos along the river at POR so it would be a toss up for me. I thought the rooms at CBR were a tad nicer than the rooms at POR but I think CBR has been renovated more recently. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at either one again and I normally stay in the deluxe resorts. I'm on a mission to stay at all the resorts at least once is the only reason I haven't stayed at either one again.

I have stayed at both and I think its a personal preference to the decor. The size is an issue depending on how far away your room is. I usually politely ask at check in how close to the main building I can be OR ask to be in the area opposite the bridge to the main pool area as that is central anyway and gets you decently close. Truthfully I always go at off peak so it helps as they have more wiggle room than in the summer at peak season. I think both times I was in either Jamaica or Aruba. CBR I think the busses take longer from my memory, but at POR the French Quarter wasn't as close as we thought so we only went over there once. We find POR to be dull as far as the decor where CBR to us is more vibrant and vacation like. Again this is a personal preference as to what ambiance you want on vacation. I remember I stayed at CSR the year it opened in July. It was so hot and our room was standard so we were in a far corner of the resort as it was fully booked. It felt like a hike every morning to get to the foodcourt area or to the main pool. I have not so fond memories of trekking around that lake several times a day.

Thanks for all your responses. I will try to get over my fear of POR and enjoy the southern atmosphere.
