Has anyone stayed in AB 14 recently. I'd love to kinow what you thought about the condition of the rooms. Are they in need of the rehab that's planned soon?

Do you think we should choose Coronado for our first choice moderate instead?

Thanks all for your help.:p

My beloved POR is now shabby?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I certainly hope not! We have always loved the AB section and truthfully we were always way too busy having fun to notice if it needed a rehab!

I noticed at the bottom of your post that the last time you stayed at Port orleans Riverside was in 1999(?). I was hoping for a more recent guest. I also noticed you will be at the Dolphin in 2004 and we were just there over Christmas and New Years'. I was sick during our stay and never left the room for a whole day. Believe me, that's when you notice the condition of the room. We were fortunate to have a newly remodeled room with those wonderful Heavenly beds. I guess I'm spoiled now!

My only complaint was no balcony and no windows that open. I'm a little claustrophobic and love fresh air...

stringercapecod, How about me! Dismom63 is right on. I wouldn't stay anyplace else with our family. If you can get on this board early in the day or late at night do a search (usually the only time the search function works) regarding POR (formerly DxL). You will see many posts by me and others regarding this resort.

Hawk.

We were there in August, and the rooms were not shabby at all. It's a beautiful resort, very well maintained!

We were there in May of 2003 and they were refurbing building 14. We had to go in another building. We visited last week, and although we didn't go in any rooms, we thought the public areas still looked bright and fresh. We wish we had been staying there LOL!

We were there in October 2003 and though the rooms haven't been remodeled recently they were still clean and well maintained.

I didnt know that any of the rooms at POR had been reburbished. We stayed in Building 14 last May. The room was very clean and wooden furnishings were ok, but carpet looked worn, bespreads had holes in them and there was a hole in the bathroom wall where someone had slammed the door knob into it. I didnt complain. I got a great AP rate on the room, and I was aware that it was due for a refurbishment.:)

It was the end of May, and they were painting building 14, and another, inside and out, and had furniture all out on the walkways, and appeared to be dragging in new matresses, so I don't know if you would call it refurbing, but they were making it nicer.

This resort is anything but shabby. It is a wonderful resort. We stayed two night last week and always have a wonderful time. I want a clean room to stay in also but some times I think people get way to picky on what they expect.

we went to CS during our stay mid jan. and vowed we would never stay there..3 conventions at one time , people and luggage wall to wall in the lobbyfor the entire 2 hrs of our visit, packed food court and the tables were so close together it was hard to get past with your food when someone was occupying the chair...maybe we just hit a terrible time but it was so packed we thought "never"! it looked nice and liked the theming but don't know how you would ever know if there was going to be conventions or not...conversely, we were staying at the PC during the packed night of the 16th and is seemed to "swallow" the people better. didn't venture into the food court that night but the grounds, bus stops ect, seemed only a little busier than normal which was very "un"crowded. at PC the food court wasn't so crammed with tables you couldn't pass by like at pepper market.

also visited POR (for next time) and it seemed nicely kept up to us although we didn't examine the rooms obviously

I agree with the previous posters. POR is not shabby at all.
maybe there are complaints here and there that catch your attention.

I read a post a week or so ago about a bed-spread being dirty or something like that. I too would be upset. We are all paying good money for our trips. We should get and EXPECT the best.

Sometimes that does not happen. You just have to keep things in perspective.

I am sure there are many compliants from those who stay at GF, CR, BW, or POLY...the money they spend on those resorts is astronomincal.

We stayed at CS when it first opened back in 1998. It was outstanding. BUT...a few things we did not like was
1-we thought it was far away from everything. The bus rides were much longer to everywhere else.

2-it is a convention resort. Higher prices in the food court and resturants.

For 10 days every August , POR is considered to be our "summer" home. We would stay NOWHERE else.

In fact, I asked my DW last night..if she had a chance to stay at any resort...money not a question....where would you stay?

After weighing all the pros and cons....it would be POR.

I said ...what if POR was closed for renovation....then where,
her choice would then be BC/YC only if we got a discount from Disney.

We really believe that NO hotel or resort is worth the money that is charged for the deluxes.

If YC/BC was not offered it would then be POFQ or CBR.

To the OP...if this is your first time at POR...
make sure to see Piano Man Bob in the lounge and ride the boat to DTD.

Wherever you decide to stay...ENJOY yourself.

Hi Stingercapecod! Just a note, my stay at POR in 2001 was AB building 14 and it was nice! Sorry you miss understood my previous post!

I can see from your responses that you all love POR. We went "resort hopping" on our trip in Feb. 2003, and I have to say I loved the homey, peacefulness of POR. We went through the food court area, walked around the grounds a bit, past the themed pool area and then took the boat to DD. The only thing I didn't see was the rooms, although the buildings looked great.

We also visited Coronado and I thought it was really brown... In keeping with the theme, but not really to my taste. I thought my teenagers would like it though.

Oh well, I'm sure we will have a wonderful time wherever we stay. After all, it's DW! :earsgirl:

I agree, we stayed at a hotel ( national chain) on the way home that had body hair and a piece of tissue left after the "cleaning" on the bathroom floor and realized when we left the next morning the door lock on the outside door didn't lock (nice to know we were so "secure" like their in room lit. bragged about) along with a "so what's the problem attitude" when it was brought to their attention.... at price comparable to an AP rate at disney where the rooms are clean or they fix the problem ( at least in our experience.)
