Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread - Royally Refurbished for 2011

I'm a bit confused. I've only stayed in AB section. I want to get in a refurbed room as close to the main building as possible. Looking at the map, I was thinking Acadian. But I've read on another site that Acadian and 36-38 AB are the farthest away.

Should I request Acadian or the other refurbed bldg? Drawn a blank, can't remember the name!!

THANKS!!

Thank you for posting that map. I am so excited as we will be there on Sunday.:yay::cheer2:

This is our second stay there and last time we were in AB Bldg 14. This time we will be in the Mansions. I am a little worried because this time last year we had issues at POFQ but so praying for no issues at POR.

Oh, now seeing the map, I think I requested the Mansions. Would that be the closest refurbed location?

Thanks Andre for the pics-what pretty rooms!

22 more days, 3 weekends, 12 work days, 1 suitcase down-5 more (and 3 backpacks) to go!

Yes very nice room pics. Is there any other name the corner rooms are known by? Even though I have a royal room I want to try for a corner one.

Andre, I appreciate all the info you have! You have been a wealth of information for this POR novice

Room Refurbishments, 2011/2012 (Information updated Sept 2011)
In early 2012, all of the rooms in Oak Manor and Parterre Place will get the new Royal Room treatment (completing early March)

It might be too early to know this, but will Oak Manor and Parterre Place be all doubles or will there be King rooms made over as well?

I'm just trying to understand how the renovation is going to work and trying to figure out the best logistical way to request rooms in proximity since we have a Royal Room and in-laws have a King room... I'm wondering if it's worth paying for a Royal King room (if they exist) to avoid having in-laws across the bayou.

I have a feeling I'll need to wait until February-ish to nail down my requests, but I'm a planner and want it all now!!! :rotfl:

Ok, I'm 2nd guessing my room request. I'm hoping someone can tell, me do they go in building number order? I requested building 38 in AB for our stay December 10-18. If they take approx. 2 weeks per building, will 38 be done by then? The dates for beginning 36, 37, 38 & 39 is October 25, for approx. 8 weeks. Will they go 36, then 37, etc., etc.?

I'm just worried I should maybe change my request to building 36 or 37 just in case. But I love 38's spot on the map. Someone ease my mind, building 38 should be done the week of December 6, I believe.

I think the wait is getting to me. :upsidedow

Oak and Parterre will not have any King rooms at all after the refits as far as I've been told, only rooms with two queen beds. The 'Royal Room' theme is seen as a family-oriented concept I guess, so there are no rooms aimed at couples. Sorry.

Being in Construction Management, and watching the way they do things in Disney, there is no set pattern that we can establish. They just have their way of doing things.

You also have to realize that Andre has posted the best guess information that everyone can gleam from the building permits and people he has talked to at the resort.

The CM dept. can up and change their mind at any time.

I have one of my roofing consultants that does work for Disney World and he says at any time, you can expect the phone to ring and all of the sudden things have changed and you have one week to get a particular building open, which means all your resources go there. It is just the luck of the draw and you have absolutely no control over how it goes, so there is no sense worrying about it.

On the good side, day before yesterday they took out a building permit for a new pool heater and plumbing for Ol' Man Island - no doubt they are going to have to close it for a few days to get the work done - but there has been no schedule shown on their building permits - there never is....

From a few messages back in this thread:

I have been a little reluctant to post detailed info on exact planned dates, as obviously anything more than a month or two away is still very much subject to change - so please don't hold anyone to this, or get cross if it doesn't happen!!

However at the moment the pre-Xmas refurb dates that I have are:

Building 36, starts 25 Oct
Building 37, starts 1 Nov
Building 38, starts 22 Nov
Building 39, starts 29 Nov

The first building (36) should be completed by 11 Nov, with all four complete by 16 Dec. But as I said, all that could be subject to change!

So yes, building 38 should be done by 9 December - IF everything goes to schedule.

I was getting the feel that they were leaning toward all queens, which is fine but figured I would ask.

Right now, I'm leaning toward just asking for corner rooms in Magnolia Bend... I figure as long as we're all in the mansions, it's not THAT far apart and the corner rooms would be fun to have.

Thanks for the info!!!

So I just put in my request for Acadian House. Is this a good one for being close to everything? Or is Magnolia considered the better of the two? Looking at the map they look about the same to me, but just wanted to get other people's opinions :) Last time we stayed in Acadian in the back of the building, and it was decent.
