My question is should I request Oak or Parterre? They are both in their 80's (my parents not the buildings) and I am requesting a handicap room since both have had knee replacement and cannot climb over the side of the tub.

I would definitely suggest asking for Oak, close to the bridge over the river. I'm not sure that all of the Accessible rooms are exactly the same, so make sure you ask for one with a full walk-in shower and explain the reasons. There is also a disability special needs phone number (1-407-939-7807) if you want to discuss any requirements in more detail.

Good morning everyone. I do hope the one member having difficulty with POR CMs has a better day today. I feel rather bad for you and your family over that. I would definitly talk to someone today when you can, I know there is one thing no one makes me out to be a liar like that. Glad you kept the text message, would have loved to see their face when they looked at that. Well anyhow I wish you have a better day today.

By the way, the Murphy bed is 66cm by 159xcm. Sorry, being Canadian that's the best I can do.

Thanks for the update, and I'm so sorry about the room number issues that you had. I'm glad they got things sorted out in the end, but it's just as well it wasn't the same weather that we had in Feb two years ago, when by 7pm it was getting down to the upper 40s!!

I happen to speak fluent metric too :) so can tell everyone that your measurements of the Murphy bed work out to about 62.5" x 26". That seems a LOT smaller than the existing trundle beds, which I once measured at 70" x 30". That's the full size of the mattress from edge-to-edge, yes? That means that realistically, 5ft is about the tallest person that would be able to fit on the new beds.

We were in Melbourne Beach 2 yrs ago in Feb...OMG it was cold even for this upstate ny'er. We were so disappointed...we wanted warmer weather lol

Currently at POR. Checked in today at 10:30am. Told them I'd prefer Queen beds, and we can wait if a room is not ready. Our CM made a phone call and said that we could have one and that they would text us when it was ready. So 45minutes later we got our room#3858, which also has a Murphy bed. Keep in mind there are only 4 of us. So kids get their own beds and everyone is happy. Fast forward to 7:05pm tonight. We have been to MK and have just finished our swim. (yes the slide and all is open) and we go back to our room and neither my key or hubby's works. So, I walk back to the lobby while he waits outside the room with 2 wet and cold kids. Huge line so I ask a passing CM if she could help me. Anyway, when I talk to someone, they tell me I'm trying the wrong room, I should be in 3653!!!!! I said I have been using the keys all day. They tell me that the computer says I'm in 3653!!!! I don't think she believed me...the manager certainly didn't. I was on the phone with her. I then showed them the text that said 3858, then they didn't know what to say as Mr.? Is registered in that room. Bottom line is it took 30 min. To get it straightened out and I said I wanted to talk to someone in the morning!! Hubby and the kids spent the whole time outside waiting. But now, kids are asleep so all is good.
By the way, the Murphy bed is 66cm by 159xcm. Sorry, being Canadian that's the best I can do. Translation 2.5ft by 5.3 ft? Or something like that. If anyone else had any ?'s, let me know. Thanks, Cathy

I hope you get some satisfaction and that it doesn't take much of your vacation time to get it!! On a different note, noticed that you are (normally) 'N. of Kingston'??!! We live in the Southern US but my family (including parents) are 'N. of Kingston'!! Verona/Westport-ish.

Can anyone tell me if any of the preferred rooms (Aligator Bayou?) have been refurbed with the queen beds yet? If so, which buildings?

I know building 14 has them. It is also the closest to main building.

i need to get this trip booked and i'm really having a hard time deciding if we should try POR. the last several trips we've stayed at FQ. it's compact, one bus stop, boat to DTD, ok pool. but i think i'm kind of bored with it.

wondering about the buses at POR. there are several stops and i'm relatively sure you get the room they give you. of course we're going over spring break. my mom will have a scooter. what if the buses are full? my DH isn't very patient with waiting.

also looking at CSR. they have 4 stops, but it appears the restaurants can be questionable (based on our needs).

any suggestions from anyone? thanks!

Well, we finally decided to try Riverside this July!! :cool1: We are even going to splurge for a Royal Room since this is the first and probably last time Nana and Papa are coming.

My question is should I request Oak or Parterre? They are both in their 80's (my parents not the buildings) and I am requesting a handicap room since both have had knee replacement and cannot climb over the side of the tub. From the map on the first page it looks like Oak is closer to the Front Desk and buses but I wanted to double check with you knowledgeable POR bunch.

TIA,

K in SA

make sure you ask for a fully accessible room and not just accessible. i have a handicap daughter , she is 16, and this happend to us on our last trip. we stayed at FW cabins as we always have, and our cabin was accessible, meaning it had a ramp to get in. it wasnt one of the wider cabins with the roll in shower. it was fine tho. my daughter does walk with crutches as well and actually prefers the regular tub. just make sure you specify

we are staying at POR too and i have a handicap daughter and worried about the bus situation. we have been spoiled at FW with one bus stop and gettting on empty buses. I am going to try to figure out where the bus stops first and second and try to use those stops. Past experience, some people are very rude and get bent out of shape when they have to give those seats up for a wheelchair or scooter. I am hoping all goes well using the buses. we also chose POR because of the boat, one less bus ride. we are driving from jersey so worse comes to worse, we drive to the parks i guess

party:

I went for the first time on our honeymoon (upcoming trip will be our 2nd) and I was giddy with excitement!! :D I hope your trip is super awesome!!! :cool1:

We havent told our 5 yr old princess princess: yet but when we do I dont know who is gonna be more excited us or her :lmao:

I was hoping that if someone is at POR or will be going there soon could find out prices for me on the following:

1/2 gal milk
2 liter bottle pop
12 pk of can pop (if they sell that there)
frozen pack of pizzas (they had these at OKW when we were there in 07)
6 or 12 pack of bottled water

Also if you happen to go to the HESS station across from DD, could you also find the prices out for the drinks there too?

I would really appreciate any help. :worship: Trying to decide if I need to order from Garden Grocer or just buy the stuff on property.

speaking of soda...is it "safe" to put cans of pepsi in your luggage? We HATE coke and we heard they dont sell pepsi stuff at Hess.

I would think it would explode in the luggage:scared1: Not good if it does.

Also if someone can see if they have Caff free coke and vanilla coke that would help too. I would rather have pepsi, but can deal with coke if I have to. (I didn't realize that Hess didn't have Pepsi :sad2:)

Are you asking regarding luggage on a flight? If so, no problem, baggage areas are pressurized. The cans will not explode whether checked or carry-on. There is a possibility that rough handling can damage the cans and cause a leak. I recommend putting the cans inside of a "zip-loc" baggie. They can add significantly to the weight of the luggage so keep that in mind if you are concerned about extra luggage fees.

We've booked a preferred room and arrive at POR on 20th June. Looking at the refurb schedule, if it was to run to plan only building 14 and 18 would be open with 18 just finished refurb and 15 and 27 almost finished.

This seems surprising that there would be 3 preferred room buildings being done at the same time but I assume we could only be in 14 or 18. I assume then that WDW would limited the amount of preferred room bookings at that time. Have I understood this correctly or could be get bumped elsewhere, to say a Water View Room?
