Port Orleans or Swan

I would definitely pick the Swan/Dolphin over the PO resorts for the same price. I don't think I'd ever stay at a moderate for $199/night!

It took me a while to decide to try the Dolphin, due to our worry that it wouldn't be "Disney" enough. But, I have to say, we loved it this past summer, and will definitely stay there again. The heavenly beds are just that - heavenly! Services and restaurants were very good, and the access to the Epcot/MGM area was fantastic.

As far as having problems with your room, we found the Dolphin staff to be very responsive to helping correct any problem. Even more so than - and I really hate to say it! - Disney cm's.

I have to say, I hear many more negative reviews of the Swan than the Dolphin. I know they are run by different companies though. We found Swan staff to be comatose.

I also believe strongly that one should NEVER have to ask for another room. It is for some a great inconvenience and frankly, a hotel should be consistent enough for one to not have to room hop.

I totally agree with this. There is no reason at any hotel that you should have to ask for another room. Why can't they keep all there rooms clean? And if they are having problems with a room why do they rent it out? Especially when you are paying a good amount to stay there.

Precisely! I love this board, but I hate the prevailing sense that if a room is unsatisfactory, the blame lays on the vacationer for not requesting a room change. Um, how about keeping the rooms ALL up to par? Why should I have to wake my sleeping kids? Additionally, a lot of times problems aren't all discovered in the first 10 minutes you are in a room.

After spending a week at the VWL, I got deluxe and was surprised at the budget appearance of my Swan room. And maybe my bed is incredibly comfy, but I didn't think the Heavenly Bed was anything to write home about. It was certainly comfy and I love down bedding.

I found not a scuff, no dirt, no pieces of the room or the rest of WL falling off. It was impeccably clean, and in fact looked brand-spanking new. I don't think anyone can say that the Swan looks anything close to new. But with a rack rate of around $300, it falls horribly below standard.

My first impression of the front desk was a big kids shoe print on a paint-chipped pastel pineapple under the counter. Ugly. Fingerprints all over the glass on the walkway to the boats. Ugly.

Our room service server was really wonderful though. He was very, very nice.

Of course there is no blame on you. Why would that be your fault? Your paying good money for that room so if you are not satisfied with it you have every right to ask for another one. If you got in late and the kids were sleeping then I would have let it go for that evening but would have taken care of it first thing in the morning. I hope you informed management of the quality of that room.
