Port Orleans or Pop Century resort!

I am taking my 8 year old daughter and 50 year old sister to Disneyworld April 2019 for 7 nights. My sister has never been and I can't decide which resort to stay at. We are staying 2 nights at Animal Kingdom Lodge Jambo house then I have 5 nights at Pop Century preferred room pool view. I have stayed at deluxe and moderate resorts and will be there for 2 weeks in December but have never stayed at a value and I am not super picky. I just want it to be easy, fun and reasonable in price. I thought Pop would be fun for my 8 year old with all the in your face Disney characters and huge attractions through out the resort. The French Quarter is sweet as well. The sit down dinning and beautiful grounds is not a big seller for me but the ease of the boat to DS is. The single resort bus stop is a plus at Pop. CB would be an option but the buses are a bit too much being such a large resort. I appriciate any opinions.

Thanks

You did not mention what the cost difference is, when we make our decision this matters. My DW likes POP but our DD's did not because most of the themes are from years WAY before they were born and they did not care about it. It is nice to be able to walk over to AOA and walk around there. Our DD's favorite value is ASMO and POFQ is our families favorite Mod resort. If you are looking at POFQ then they also only have 1 bus stop, but they do occasionally share with POR. If the cost is not to big then we would always pick a Mod over a value because of the more relaxing feel and especially with POFQ having the boat to DS.

Pop is my favourite value and POFQ is my favourite moderate. I love them both!

If you want easy, fun and reasonably priced I'd choose Pop. But if there's a standard room available I'd choose that over preferred pool. It will be quieter and much more relaxing. :goodvibes

Porfq over pop... we avoid values for the reasons you likely already know.. the biggest one for us, it’s way too hectic/overrun with kids and did I say Hectic, lol. Especially from Jambo/deluxe downgrading.. I’d do pofq.
Have a lovely visit wherever u choose.

I noticed ppl keep saying that values are more hectic. Where? I have stayed at all values and mods and I honestly don't notice a huge difference. Cafeteria in the morning? Sure its busy, but where is it not busy in the morning? Pool? Again, i've seen busy pools at both levels.

Both resorts are good options. If there's pop is significantly cheaper, i'd stick with that. The atmosphere is lovely in your face, and you have the option of walking over to AoA and checking out their resort, even eating at their food court. They have unique offerings and different from pop. The plus to pofq is that its a smaller resort and they have a slide at the pool. Oh, and there's the lovely boat ride to Disney Springs. Tough choice, but theyre both great. Pop was recently reno'd, so the rooms are shiny and new and absolutely lovely. :) I just came from there so let me know if you have any questions. (with both resorts you'll have two QUEEN beds).

if you could get the AoA for a value I would do that over Pop with your daughters age. The only downfall to that resort is that the non-suite room are in the Little Mermaid building which is the farthest area from the bus.

POFQ is nice and the pool theme is definitely kid oriented so if I couldn't get AoA I would pick POFQ over Pop.

I have stayed at both, and like both a lot. My main concern is that you are doing AKL first. A value room is going to feel very small coming from a deluxe, even smaller than normal. If there is not a huge difference in price, I would probably pick POFQ just for that reason.

I haven’t had any issues with Pop being more hectic or crowded than POFQ, and I do prefer Pop’s bus stop layout at the resort. However, since AKL has small rooms for a deluxe, I don’t think you will notice the room size change so much at a moderate. I usually recommend if someone is combining a deluxe stay with a value stay that they end the trip with the deluxe because everything will seem bigger and better when you make the switch.

I have also stayed at AOA and enjoyed that as well.

We’ve stayed at all three and would stay at any of them again. Maybe let your daughter choose? Also, I second that you should do your deluxe resort after your value/mod. You will appreciate them both that way.

Pop is one of my favorite resorts, it is super cute, in-your-face fun! POFQ is a peaceful, beautiful, quaint little resort, and I love it there, too. If money were no object, I would honestly stay at POFQ every visit. But when I am trying to save some, I stay at Pop.

If cost isn’t an issue go port orleans. It’s incredible, has great theming, you can walk between the two port orleans resorts, and you can hop on a boat right to Disney springs.

I’d take POR over Pop any time. Much less crowded. 2880 rooms vs 1000 rooms room size 280sq ft vs 314sq ft.
To me, the resort grounds make a big difference in the over all feel. I enjoy being at Por more. To me, Pop is a place to wash and sleep if that’s the kind of trip I’m having. I just find it more enjoyable at Por.

Pop is better for kids! I love Pop. It is very convenient, you get in and out of the hotel quickly. The rooms are remodeled, so your kid gets to play with the murphy bed, a plus! POR has other benefits, but Pop is great fun! Worth a visit. And with the bus schedules being published on cell phones nowadays, going anywhere isn't difficult. You just relax in your room until the bus is about there, and go take the bus! Pop is particularly good for park days.

I made a mistake in my previous post. I originally indicated that at both resorts you get two double beds. I actually meant QUEEN beds.

I totally agree with all of this! Great for kids for sure. And adults too. Its a fun walk down memory lane. I always giggle when I see the "walkman". Particularly when my DS asked "whats that?".
