Port of Miami rental car return & Shuttle

I am taking my Girl Scout troop on a Cruise out of the port of Miami.

We have to return the rental car to the Miami Airport. I can see the rental car kiosks are not within the airport itself, but a remote lot adjacent to the airport.

Rental car companies operate shuttles to the port, we'll I hear at certain times of the year some companies combine and share shuttles.

What I can't figure out is if they actually run their own shuttles directly from the rental return lot, or if we will have to get to the airport terminal and take a shuttle from there.

Am I correct that I should estimate about an hour for all these processes to occur ? Drop car off, wait in line to return keys, shuttles.

The other choice is to drop off in a "neighborhood" location and pay a taxi to drop us off at the cruise terminal, 8 pl = 2 taxis or a taxi van = $40 estimate for 3 mile ride.

Several of the rental companies have a "Port of Miami" location with a shuttle to the Port. These locations are located in the downtown area and are generally only about 10 minutes to the Port. Definitely worth your sanity to return here, if pricing is similar to returning to MIA

The airport (MIA) is all the way across town and the shuttle ride between the MIA and POM can take anywhere from 25 minutes to an hour depending on time of day, traffic conditions and how aggressive your driver is. Whenever you take this shuttle, hold on tight and pray. Miami traffic is always crazy and most times INSANE.

The Rental Car Center is indeed offsite at MIA, however, all rental agency's are in the same location and it is served by a Light Rail Train called the MIA Mover (it's similar to the trams that take you to the airsides at MCO). It only takes a couple of minutes to go from the MIA terminal to the Rental Car Center (it actually doesn't feel like you are leaving the airport grounds at all)
