Port Day in Cozumel

We booked a port adventure through DCL for our cruise in March, but I'm now wondering if we just should go at it on our own while in Cozumel. Any advice? We are traveling with a 7 and 11 year old

I wanted to go to Paradise Beach(see trip advisor) via taxi, but hubby doesn't cruise. Found some people in our meet group to go but they cancelled on us last minute. I have two teen girls, traveling with just me(mom) and they were scared to try alone. It would have been so much cheaper and it ended up to be the place right beside where we did the DCL excursion(Cozumel Beach Break). So if you are ok taking a taxi, definitely a very cheap option with great reviews. The roads there are like highways that are split... two lanes out, with woods in the middle... two lanes back in. I think it might have been a bit scary if we did go on our own, wondering where they were taking us, but now that I have gone once, I would be ok with it. About a 10-15 min cab ride.

I have looked into Paradise Beach and it sounds great! We booked the Beach Break at Playa Mia through DCL. But I'm afraid to go on our own and have something go wrong. Ohhhh!!! Decisions! Decisions!

Playa Mia was ok, except for the food. They had the buffet on ice. At first look it wasn't too bad, but then my daughter scooped what was suppose to be sour cream and it was liquid like milk. I ended up not letting the girls eat anything except french fries and tortilla chips. We purchased bottled water and pop. Not a huge deal since we ate a good breakfast and then we just grabbed a burger as soon as we were back onboard. I wish Disney would offer it a bit cheaper without the food option. We are doing another Western Caribbean in December.

Are you going to Grand Cayman? I felt incredibly safe there. Like I said, daddy doesn't cruise.... so we tend to stick with DCL too. Cayman though, we just made sure we were back at least an hour before we needed to be. We jet skiied. It was awesome.

We have been to Paradise Beach twice and enjoyed it both times. If you look at their website and think your kids would enjoy the climbing things (and they are strong swimmers, the water gets deep out past the first row), it will be a big hit. We have also done the Chankanaab Dolphin Discovery dolphin experience (when our kids were 4 and 6) which was nice to do once, but we won't repeat it.

This is an easy one to do on your own, just walk off the ship, go through the shopping center to the official taxi stand, there is a sign there telling you the official prices, tell them where you want to go, hop in the cab and you get there. Afterward when it's time to return to the port there are cabs out front of PB. Take a peak on googlemaps and you'll see that Paradise Beach is 10km straight along the coast from the cruise terminal. As scootch mentioned, you can start to feel like you're being taken away from civilization if you're not familiar with the route. Also, bring towels off the ship as they are not provided.
