They just announced that the Port will not open until Thursday. There is some type of damage that will block the ships enterance. We are going to Port Everglades down the coast. We are on the ship for another night because we can not clear US Customs tonight. They will bus us to the Orlando area tonight.

This was posted by KathyMike. It sounds like she's on the Wonder now. Can anyone confirm?

Yup. DCL updated their announcement.

The impact of Hurricane Frances has necessitated changes to the timing, port of arrival and port of departure for upcoming voyages of both the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder:

Disney Magic
The seven-night Eastern Caribbean sailing, originally scheduled for September 4th, will be shortened to a four-night cruise and will depart on Tuesday, September 7th from Port Everglades, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The ship will arrive back at Port Canaveral as scheduled on Saturday, September, 11th. This voyage will sail to Cozumel, Mexico.

Guests have the option of:

Canceling and receiving a full refund OR
Sailing and receiving a 50% discount off of their original voyage fare plus a $200 onboard credit and a voucher for 25% of a future 3-, 4-, or 7-night cruise.
Guests who choose to sail will be provided transportation via motor coach to Port Everglades from the Walt Disney World Resort, the Orlando International Airport or Port Canaveral

The September 11th, seven-night Western Caribbean sailing is still set to depart as scheduled from Port Canaveral.

Disney Wonder
The four-night Bahamian sailing originally scheduled to depart on September 5th has been cancelled. All guests will receive a discount voucher for 25% off a future 3-, 4-, or 7-night cruise PLUS one of the following:

Canceling and receiving a full refund,
A four-night Walt Disney World Resort stay with length-of-stay theme park tickets or
Sailing on the modified Disney Magic 4-night itinerary to Cozumel scheduled for September 7th.
Rescheduling to a future sail date at prevailing rate. Change fees will be waived. Due to high phone volume, guests selecting this option will be contacted after Wednesday, September 8th.
The September 9th three-night cruise to the Bahamas is still set to depart as scheduled from Port Canaveral.

Arrivals of both the Disney Magic, which departed on Saturday, August 28th and the Disney Wonder, which departed on Thursday, September 2, have been delayed to the late evening of Monday September 8th at Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale. Guests will be able to disembark Tuesday morning. Transportation will provided back to Orlando International Airport, The Walt Disney World Resort and Port Canaveral for guests to pick up their personal vehicles. A shuttle will also be available to transport guests to Ft. Lauderdale airport, or other south Florida airports, if necessary.

Thanks, MArk. I wasn't sure where to look for the information.

Wow! It keeps getting better, huh?

I think that the Setember 8 is a typo.

According to the latest posted by current cruisers they are going to Port Canaveral (Ft. Lauderdale) and letting everyone off. Disney is bussing them to the Ft. Lauderdale airport, any other south FLA airport, WDW or MCO. The Magic cruisers are being bused to Port Everglades from MCO or WDW for this cruise that is still scheduled but now leaving from PE tomorrow.
Remember they still have to clear US customs before they can disembark.
We are due in Friday for a stay at the Radisson. Those plans may have to change.:(

We made it to Orlando today, still planning to sail on the 9th, but after seeing the damage to the Cocoa Beach on television, I don't know! I imagine the port is okay, but the buildings along A1A look like a war zone...even worse than Kissimmee after Charley.

NancyDVC,

I too was scheduled to stay at the Radisson the night before our 9/9 cruise. I called today and they told me they would not open unitl Sat. You better call and check on your reservation.

Barb,
I'm glad you made it to Orlando! I'm hoping to see you on the cruise!

With any luck, I can keep Ivan away!
Tony and I have sailed Labor Day weekend every year since 1998 and have never once been in a hurricane. This year, for the first time ever, we switch the date to one week later...and missed Frances!!! Hopefully that means my pixie dust is will intact and will ward off Ivan for the Wonder's next trip.

We have a new chant for Florida Residents
"IVAN TURN RIGHT"
If all us diser's start chanting now, maybe we can blow it to the right.

Actually, Left would be better. Don't need CC taking another hit.

As long as it doens't hi Poor Charleston, SC...

We have close friends in Summersville, which is VERY close to Charleston, and they havn't had A REAL hurricane since Hugo, I believe...

IVAN TURN FAR RIGHT INTO EMPTY OCEAN...

It looks like Barbados will GET IT in the next few days... we went there 3 yrs ago, and was told, the last time they got a hurricane was like 20 yrs ago.

This statement is on the Port Canaveral web site (www.portcanaveral.org):
The waters of Port Canaveral will not be re-opened for any vessels until at least Wednesday, September 8. This applies to all types of vessels, including recreational as well as cargo and cruise. The U.S. Coast Guard must first do a full inspection of the harbor and approaches to determine if there are any submerged or other hazards in the water and to determine what emergency dredging may be necessary.

Canaveral Port Authority employees of the Operations Department will need to report for work on Tuesday, September 7. Power has not been fully restored to the Port and it is voluntary for administrative employees to report on Tuesday. The Canaveral Port Authority administrative offices are expected to be fully open at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8.

For the most current information on Port operations, please call the public advisory information line at 321-783-7831 and listen for the prompts. All information is subject to change.

I just found an article in FLORIDATODAY that said "Port Canaveral is closed until further notice"......And that everyone on cruises this week should contact their cruise line to find out where they will depart.

Ah, yes, Barb. But your streak of perfect visits to Castaway Cay will be snapped since you won't be able to visit Castaway Cay.

Barb-
I'm counting on your Pixie Dust being intact - not only so that you, Tony and your cruisemates have a wonderful cruise, but because I'm really looking forward to our cruise on Sunday the 12th!;)
Looking forward to any updates you can provide in the meantime - on the Port, CC, etc.
Happy 39th Sailing!:boat:
