Port Canavral, luggage

The "warning" I remember was a lady felt her bags were taken too quickly before she could get her bearings. I think it was more of a personal experience than a problem.

I was torn between thinking it was that one or the person who only had like $3 ones and felt that their luggage was purposely mishandled when from the description it sounded more like they were the victims of someone packing beer in their checked bags (against the rules) and the beer leaking.

Here is a pic of the pedestrian bridge I took on March 7th. The bridge leads from the 3rd floor of the parking garage (in the background) to the terminal.

Ok thanks!

FWIW, I always do just $1/bag and have never had attitude or luggage issues. (My bags are not ridiculously heavy - if the larger one was big enough I could put the smaller bag inside the bigger one and still be under the airline weight requirements.)

I always give them at least $5 a bag....I think before my Dec cruise I tipped $20 for 3 small bags.

I can't say this is what we always do, but we've definitely done $1/bag and we've never gotten a bit of attitude at all. I've said before (probably in other threads) that we aren't as generous with tips as others are (though we do tip), and still we get great service.

We budget groceries with cash and save the change, and that turns into our painless tip money for trips. :)

We wheeled our own stuff down the one time we parked in the garage. We didn't have porters help us unload the car. We just took our time, unloaded our cars, wheeled the stuff down to entrance and handed them off to the porters before checking through the ID check. It wasn't hectic at all for us, but it has been when we have taken a taxi to the terminal.

For our second cruise we took a town car service to and from the port. We tipped the porter $2 a bag. The porter was polite, professional, and helpful, making sure we knew where to go, etc, and that was before he got a tip :-)

Yep. I save my $1s and coins (which I turn into bills) and use those for additional tips as I see fit. Like I said, my bags are always well under the airline weight, so they are likely some of the lightest bags they deal with. Never had any issues.

Question about taking the DCL bus and luggage. First time cruiser so do you get you bags from the airlines when you arrive at MCO and take to bus or is it like the regular magical express? Once you arrive at Port do you get your luggage from the bus and then give to porter?

If you've pre-booked the DCL transfers, then DCL will send you luggage tags that you affix to your bags before checking in at your home airport. DCL will pick up the bags at MCO and deliver them to your room onboard.

If you plan on purchasing the DCL transfers at MCO, when you arrive, you will need to claim your bags at the airport and bring them to the DCL transport checkin desk, then the next time you see them will be onboard when they are delivered to your room.

I'm a first time cruiser, so if we don't book our flight through Disney (because who pays $800 for a flight from DC to Florida?), do we just carry our luggage onto the ship and up to our room ourselves or are we supposed to give our bags to someone else so they magically appear later?

Thank you

Thanks do much for the information. I booked the transfers so I will look out for the tags next year.

Depends on how you are getting from the airport to the ship.

If by rental car/private transport you will claim your bags at the airport and hand them over to the porters at the terminal. They will handle getting the bags onboard and to your room.

Are you arriving the same day that your cruise leaves? If so, and if you have the transfers booked, they'll just take them.

If you haven't made those arrangements yet, though, I would really urge you to come in a day or more before, especially if traveling during any season where there might be difficult weather.

How you book your flight means nothing.

Unless you have carryon sized bags ONLY, you can't carry your bags onto the ship. They have to go to a porter/luggage person at some point, whether that's a person behind the scenes at MCO the day you arrive and embark the ship, or the people who pick up bags from a room booked at Hyatt IN the airport or your WDW hotel, or the porters outside the main gates to the terminal.

Which is pretty much any season.

Anything can cause a delay - a ground stop somewhere for some security issue or planes backing into each other, etc. A mechanical issue with the plane. The crew not getting in on time and needing their rest.

There is not enough money in the world to make me take a day-of flight. Way too many things can go wrong, even first flight out in the morning.

Also as a side note for those driving. If you arrive too early the porters might not be accepting luggage yet. Our last cruise we arrived at 9:50 and were told they couldn't accept our luggage till 10. We had to circle around at 10 in order to drop it off curb side. :)

Yep!! We just happened to pull in at 10:00 am on the nose and there were no other cars around. When we stopped at the gate the attendant said go on up to the curb, you are the first car they are letting in to drop off. We were at the curb a good 3 minutes or so before any other car showed up. That was a first. Usually we have to jockey for position at the curb to drop luggage off. Last year we got to the port at 9:58 and was told to circle around and come back.
