We our sailing soon, and the kids desperately want to go to the beach. However, we have a 4-year old, and none of the beach excursions have enough spots left for our family of 6. Do you think I'll run into issues if I book spots for as many as possible on the excursion (including for the 4 year old) and the rest of the family goes by taxi and meets us at the beach?

Why not just skip the port adventure, and just go to the beach by taxi as a group?

Doing that, you don’t have to split up, and you can probably get to the beach earlier than the PA group, and enjoy it before the tours arrive.

We can't do that b/c my 4-year old isn't old enough for a vax so he can only get off via a DCL excursion.

Ah. I see. I think one thing to watch out for is if the PA has some kind of "bubble space" on the beach or other exclusivity - a buffet, a reserved section of lounge chairs, etc. - whereby your PA people get wrist-banded or ticketed to have access to these things, and your taxi people do not.

If that's not an issue, I might consider comparing cost to see if it makes more sense to book just the 4-y.o. and a parent on the PA, and put everyone else in a taxi. You might save some money. And your taxi people can get there early to stake out some prime space on the beach.

I think the issue is that the excursions for under 4s are intentionally "bubbled" -- guests can't leave the excursion's dedicated area on the beach, and others can't come in.

If I were you I'd roll the dice and wait to book once onboard the ship (though I would keep checking the app in the meantime). There are always last-minute cancellations--some voluntary or sadly these days some involuntary (denied boarding).
