I'm thinking about staying at PORS in Sept. However, I've read that their transportation is pretty bad. I know the buses stop at POFQ first then go to all the different stops at PORS. I'll have my mom in an ECV and am curious just how bad is the transportation? If we are stuck at one of the later stops at PORS how will she be able to get on the bus? Would we be waiting multiple buses for one to come by that had space for an ECV?

I posted this question on the resorts board, but thought I might get more answers here from people who have experienced it. Thanks!

I'm afraid I've not stayed at RS since I started using a chair at Disney, so can't give you first-hand experience. However, I do know Disney are very good about heir transport. If you can't fit on a bus, the driver should radio for another bus to come for you.

Hope you don't run into any problems. Have a great trip! :goodvibes

There are special areas reserved on the bus for WC and ECV. If the bus is not crowded they will ask anyone sitting there to move. There are signs posted so it shouldn't be a shock. How experienced is your mother with an ECV? This is where I have most of my problems. Even though they move people from the reserved area there are other people who do not have to move and it can be a challenge trying to park an ECV with feet in the middle of the aisle. I wouldn't let this change your decision to stay at PORS. It is great resort.

As OneLittleSpark commented they will send another bus if it is already crowded.

Have a magical trip!

I stayed at POFQ last July. I was always the only one with an ECV. The bus never had anyone standing--either going to the parks or returning. (Even after stopping at all the stops at Riverside.) Now there were a couple of times that the bus was not accessible & once trying to get to the MK early, I had to wait for the third bus to be able to load. The second driver called for a bus for me and it actually worked out better because they took me straight to the GF which was where I wanted to go for breakfast!!

Thanks! My mom doesn't use an ECV at home (except for when in the grocery stores or WalMart), but always has to use one at WDW, due to her bad knees. The first couple of trips to WDW she had a hard time backing them up, but does really well now (since she's started using them at the stores around here).

Thanks again for the info. I just have this vision of us being the last stop at PORS and having to watch full bus after full bus pass us by every morning, due to her scooter.

If you haven't seen it yet, there is a section in the disABILITIES FAQs thread about bus service.

My husband is in a wheelchair and we just got back from POR feb 2nd. We did not have any trouble with the bus service. One night we were late from dining at boardwalk we took the bus downtown rather than make us transfer to another bus the bus driver was kind of enough to take us on back to POR. He was a puerto rican bus driver I found the puerto Rican bus drivers were very nice. They always loaded my husband first. We had to be taken off last but we were always loaded first. We were the south depot. If the bus is full there is always another one within the next 10 minutes.

I use an ECV whenever I go to Disney World. I have only ever had problems boarding a bus once when staying at CSR and that was due to people's feet, etc. in the aisles. People who don't ride the ECVs are not aware of how difficult it can be to back up & position them into the tight spots on the bus. They are also not aware that they don't have brakes and will often jump in front of you and stop suddenly. This always scares me!

I stayed at POR last May for 10 days and never had an ounce of trouble with the buses. They were always empty when arriving at the bus stop (the one in front of the resort, not sure whether A, B, etc. :confused3).

The drivers would see me and lower the bus or apparatus (there are old buses that tilt down & slide out a ramp & newer ones that lower a ramp for you to pull onto before lifting back into the bus) and I would board 1st when the only WC/ECV user, or in order if not. Then they'd let the rest of the passengers board. Easy peezy, lemon squeezy.

There was one time where there were 3 of us in ECVs and the first bus could only take the 1st 2 of us. I elected to stay behind as they were both children & I just think they deserve to get to MK as soon as possible!:goodvibes

But the driver radio'd for another bus & one was there within 15 minutes. From my experiences, you should have no concerns about staying at POR with an ECV. It's such a beautiful resort & everyone was super friendly & helpful.:lovestruc
