Hope some of the experts out there can help me ! We have stayed onsite before at AKL and WL both of were lovely but we just can't afford the extra cost so this time staying in a moderate.

After some research have decided on POR - we have 2 children aged 8 and 12and want a resort that isn't too huge so we can come back and have a relaxed atmosphere and nice pool area. I did look at POFQ but decided there would be more for older children to do at POR

Could someone advise on where we should request our rooms. We are going in August and would like renovated rooms, which are quiet but not too far away from the pool/reception/food court so we don't have to walk too far after a day in the parks.

Thanks

There is an entire thread devoted to POR; you can look at the resort map and find what appeals to you the most.

You are requesting two separate things.

You say you want to be somewhere quiet, but close to the main building. You can have one, but not the other. Close to the main building, means you will book preferred location, but will have a great deal of foot traffic around your building, since everyone else will be going that way to get to the back of the resort.

You can stay somewhere quiet on the perimeter and be close to the one of the bus stops, so you can have a shorter walk back to the building. There are three additional perimeter bus stops in addition to the main one.

By August, all the rooms will be refurbished.

Agree with Missytara. Personally, unless you're a family of 5, I would request a mansion building. You'd be in either Magnolia Terrace or Acadian House, since the other two mansion buildings are being converted to royal rooms. We've stayed in both Acadian House and Magnolia Terrace and found them close to the main pool and just beyond the main pool was the food court. They are also not preferred locations, so we didn't have to book that category. We were on the third floor both times which we found to be quiet. If you do book preferred, you will be in the Alligator Bayou section. You could request the second floor to help eliminate any noise but there are no elevators in the AB section.

Good idea; Oak Manor was my favorite building before it became Royal rooms.

I have been in Magnolia Terrace and Acadian House (just this past year) and have loved both.

In Acadian House, we booked standard room because that was what my traveling companions could afford.

We were in the back corner, facing the parking lot, but we were close to the bus stop and close to the quiet pool. I bet we didn't see five people all week near our room.

We would walk to the main building in the morning to eat breakfast and board the bus. It was a wonderful walk in the morning to get us going for the day at the parks.

We would eat a dinner in the resort or at the park. We would pick up snacks and drinks before boarding the bus back to POR. Then we would get off at the perimeter stop, run into the room, change into bathing suits and were literally in the quiet pool within minutes.

We had the best of both worlds. It was wonderful!

Remember that a request is just that--A REQUEST. There is no guarantee you will get what you ask for.

The Aligator Bayou is fun and if you book a prefered room you are closer to the food court and a short walk over to the pool. You can walk out front to the bus stop and get on for the 1st stop. I don't think noise was ever a real issue except when the landscapers where using their blowers to clear off the walk ways at 7:30 am when we've been there. Requests are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get. As Missytara said, look at the map of POR and get an idea what you want and then, when you check in ask, you never know you may get exactly what you want. You'll love POR it is our favorite moderate.
Good luck,
YO
