I'm sure this gets posted often... But what are the pros and cons of staying in either the POR/POFQ vs the other.

I like POFQ better because it's a much smaller resort than POR. Only has one bus stop, so you're off to the parks quickly. I also prefer POFQ food court. Food is tastier to me. Plus, they serve beignets, which are delish!

POFQ
- compact and love the theme
- no sharing of buses at times

POR
- prefer the food court over POFQ
- better playground

Overall, we prefer POFQ.

The one thing that is swaying us to consider POR is that POFQ doesn't get any of the discount deals.

Bus service for FQ is much better because it's only one stop. So you don't have to worry about getting on a bus that's already full or making 3 other stops after your long day at the park. Riverside has much more greenery and has a more rustic feel to it. It's beautiful. I haven't been to the FQ cafeteria in a long time so I can't speak for that. I guess it really depends on what you're looking for as to which resort you'd like best. For me, the one stop bus is a HUGE plus :)

We much prefer POR over POFQ. FQ was too compact & we really didn't like the rooms. We prefer the preferred rooms in the AB section of POR since it's close to everything. We also really enjoy the quiet pools & the lounge with Yee Haw Bob. The multiple bus stops don't bother us at all. Love the food court, boat to DS & the carriage rides.

You can also check out www.portorleans.org for tons more info.

The small size and one bus stop are HUGE selling points for POFQ! The couple times we've shared buses with POR all I've thought is "I'd hate to have to do this every time!"

Other things that have been mentioned as pluses for POR are actually open to POFQ guests as well. You can walk down and use the quiet pools, eat in the food court, take the boat to DS, go for a carriage ride, and listen to Yee Haw Bob any time you want. But for the short walk to any room, the great food court, and the one bus stop, I'd choose POFQ every time.

This is all great info, thank you! Has anyone ever had any luck getting a discount in July for POFQ.

OP we always have stayed at POFQ but if it wasn't an option the next choice would be POR. We walk up to POR several times a trip to see Yeeha Bob, use their main pool (change of scenery ) & on a few trips eat dinner at Boatwright's. We usually only eat breakfast at the food court (on 9 trips we have only done 2 dinner & 2 lunches in total), so that isn't a deciding factor for us. You don't say if your party include children but the pool slide at POFQ is more for younger children plus they are renovating the children's pool area. It is due to be done in a few weeks.
I don't think you can go wrong with either.

We have stayed 3 times at POR and 1 time at POFQ.

My thoughts: Both have great theming and pools! Both food courts are yummy, but POFQ gets extra points for their beignets and gumbo. POFQ also gets major points for not having CMs lead the children in a very loud instrument parade through the food court at 9:00 pm. POR has a great gift shop. The royal rooms at POR are awesome! POFQ has the smallness and quietness going for it. POR has Bob Jackson's show going for it...although my kids thought he was too loud! We have eaten twice at Boatright's. This is the TS restaurant at POR. We will never go back. We had great service, but the food just didn't cut it for us. Both have the boats to Disney Springs. We have rented a surrey bike at POR. That was fun.

I, too don't think you can go wrong with either one. We take the boat between the two and walk back and forth when we are there...so you really can enjoy both!
Happy Planning!

Thank you! We will be traveling with a pre-schooler and toddler. Not sure that makes a difference in choosing between info the two resorts.

Forgot to mention...POR has a monitor at the main bus depot showing which bus is coming and when...I don't know if POFQ has one or not.

POFQ is smaller and I think it does make a difference when you are coming home after a day at the parks with young children. Every step matters. Having your own bus also makes a difference. Every bus stop counts. :sunny:

I agree with POFQ may be the better choice with very young children. Some buildings at POR are a walk (one that our adults only family enjoys) from the bus and main building.

I don't have children, but POR is my "home" resort. It is so beautiful and peaceful. I just prefer the theming there. The food court is also much larger. This means it gets pretty crowded, but it also has more options that POFQ.

POFQ was very nice for us in October. Building 4 was nice and close for us because we don't care about the views and wanted to avoid any river horns. I took earplugs because I'd heard the toilets in other rooms flushed loud, but I didn't hear any. Honestly, it was pretty outside our (standard) room too...I could see a car or two, but so green and lush without being overgrown.

How often will you eat in the food court? We ate a couple quick breakfasts and one dinner. We like to plan and eat other places on site, so we didn't notice any limitations in the food court.

I know this was posted a while back, But what is the difference between the rooms? I thought pOR and POFQ rooms were basically identical except for some colors. ???

Also, I did NOT like the AB room we had a POR -- too dark with all that brown! I see pics of lighter rooms now. Have they all been redecorated to the turquoise color scheme? I really don't want the woodsy room if I stay there again and would like to know what to do to avoid it?

Do both or either have a curtain to close in the sink area?

The only way you can avoid it is to book a royal room. If you check the POR thread, you'll see lots of info, including links to Andre's website about all things Port Orleans.
