OK my DH wants me to ask this question. We are planning a trip to DW next July for 11 nights and are pretty much between POR and POFQ but when my husband was looking at some DW books last night he noticed that CBR only has 64 more rooms than POR yet it seems that many people don't like CBR. Could anyone that has done both explain to him why one would be better than the other. I told it could be theming, transportation etc. But he doesn't get the bus issue since both resorts are basically about the same size. Are they just laid out completely different?? Is CBR more spread out with only 2 story buildings whereas POR has AB and MB? Any help that you can give me on this matter would be greatly appreciated:)

Thanks in advance!!

I'll try my best to help you, but I'm sure there are many posters who can offer lots of info.

I've stayed at CBR many times. In fact, I stayed there almost immediately after it opened. I LOVE this resort. Yes, it's spread out, but that's one of the best things about it....you never feel cramped or crowded. Some people say it's a long walk to OPR, but if you ask for a building in Martinique or any 'village' close to OPR, it's just a quick walk.

We normally rent a car, so I can't help you with your bus questions (sorry!).

They have the most beautiful white, sandy beaches! Some of the beaches have those play parks for the kids.

One of my favorite aspects of CBR is that every village has it's own quiet pool. These pools are rarely crowded, and always clean and fun. Kids tend to migrate over to the themed pool by OPR, so the quiet pools tend to entertain the adults & babies.

Not sure if each area of POR has it's own quiet pool. I'm sure other posters will know for sure.

Now, I've never stayed at POR, but my sister stayed there on her honeymoon. She really enjoyed her stay there, but did comment that CBR looked "brighter" than POR. Probably because the buildings, both inside & out, are painted in bright pastels.

Other than that, I believe the two resorts are basically the same....with each room having two full-sized beds, a changing area, and a small bathroom.

I have not stayed at POR but when we were in WDW staying at CBR we met up with friends staying there. We didn't care for it. It was in fact darker and less "sunny" than CBR. We just weren't into the theme of it. Their room looked like it was themed to look like a cabin or something. When they came and saw CBR a few days later, they were disappointed in their choice of POR. Best of luck! look at lots of pics of both to see what you think would suit you better. :)

Well, one vote for the other side. As a couple, without kids (well, we say we don't have kids, we have adults), we loved POR, the mansion side (don't remember the "real" name), we went in November, it was just lovely!! Since then we've become vacation club owners, but would definitely return there again! Loved it!!

CBR seems so much larger because the rooms are arrayed around a lake where as at POR they are along a river which is much smaller. In actuallity the difference in the logest walks bewteen the two resorts is probably a couple of minutes.
I have stayed at both and love both resorts. CBR is more colorful and casual. The gardens are less formal than those of the mansion homes and you have big expansive views across the lake.
POR is more intimate with the bayou section being less formal and closed in by lots of trees. There are loads of trees around the mansion homes as well and the whole resort has much more muted colors.
Either one will be great for a WDW vacation.

We have stayed at both and love both. We always have our own or a rental car so I'm also not sure about the buses. Both resorts are themed so nicely and the quiet pools at both are great. I guess I'd go with the theme you like best. Our first time staying on-site we knew we were definitely staying at POR then we saw pics of CBR and changed our minds. We wanted the tropical feel. The next time we stayed at POR because I wanted to feel like Scarlett O'Hara. ;) POFQ is also very nice. I've never stayed at CSR.

We've stayed at both and I much prefer POR. CBR was too colorful for me and I guess I'm not into the beach theme. I love all the wood at POR and the wooden bridges over the Sassagoula River. The landscaping is beautiful. The boat ride to DTD is convenient or just peaceful if you just choose to take it for the boat ride. I understand they now offer carriage rides too. I enjoyed sitting on the veranda of the poolside bar in a rocking chair. Right behind this was a path to a catch and release "fishing hole". The gift shop was large and offered a nice selection of food too. I remember one evening buying a box of choc. chip cookies and sitting in the food court with that and a hot chocolate and just enjoying the atmosphere. The pool at POR was more spacious and less crowded. The quiet pool in the evening was peaaceful as I did my laundry there at the same time. The hot tub is larger at POR (although I didn't use it). The theme pool at CBR was always crowded. My kids didn't even use it for that reason.

Overall, the southern theme appealed to me more than the Carribean theme. I was so homesick for POR when staying at CBR we spent one afternoon at POR eating lunch and walking around the grounds.

So, I would say go with the theme that appeals to you.
:D

Thanks everyone....seems like it comes down to the themeing which is what I thought:)
