POR......... Should bad reviews scare me away?

Dh and I stayed there for 6 nights back in 2002. We loved the resort and had a wonderfult time. We were very pleased with everything. The only minor complaint that I could have is that the room needed some "freshening." it was starting to look worn,. But that was 2 years ago, and the resort is being refurbished now.

And I can't say enough about the bus service! (and this was the case at both POR and CSR). So nice just to relax and let someone else do the driving. For us, it added to the "in another world" feeling. My Dh hasn't gone 7 days without driving since he was 16 years old. There were times that we had to wait 15 minutes for a bus, and at Park closings the waits can be long, but, we expected that.

This may be a silly question but does POR have ducks on property that you can feed - DH and I love to feed the CBR ducks so it would be great if we can do the same at POR - (and we don't even have kids yet:)

Great reviews...................$94/night though? The lowest rate for late-April 2005 is $149/night. Is that still a good deal? Is it worth the extra $20 for a "preferred view?" What can I do to get a lower rate?

Can you request a certain building and is it a good choice to be near the food court and the main pool? If so, what buildings do you recommend?

I know, lots of questions...............

Thanks again.

There are room only Discounts and I just booked for March which is Peak Season for $117 a nite. I called and said I am using code BDP. I got the code off the DIS Boards.

$382 for 4 days, 3 nights at FQPOR. We are just doing a quick weekend. When I called I just said Port Orleans.

My daughter is all excited, cause she stayed there with her dad, while I was chaperoning the h.s. band at a run down Ramada. I am thinking of calling back cause she says the mansions are awesome.

I don't know about the ducks but I do know that at the boat dock for DTD at POFQ there are some dispensers to feed the fish. There are some big fish there!! The kids LOVED doing that. Actually all of us did!

We had an end room in the mansion and didn't have any problems. I'd love to stay there again. :)

Now, All Stars is another story! Had 2 rooms I hated and won't go there again.

we just got back from POR last night and it was just perfect. we only paid $65 a night and it was well worth it. even for $150 a night i think its worth it. the location was pretty good, you have t he boat to DTD, the sassagoula river is so beautiful. also, a lot of the rooms have free fridges in them now from what they told us...we had one. oh, and we stayed in the mansions (magnolia) and the room still smelled of new paint...it was so clean. i have nothing bad to say at all about it!

We just stayed at POR for 4 nights (10/21/04-10/25/04). Buses were easy but this was a slow season. Rooms relatively clean. Refurbished with new mattresses (very comfortable), fridges in room. However, we had 2 adjoining rooms and coffee pots in both room were dirty on check in. Old coffee and grounds in both. We called Mousekeeping right away and were told they wouldn't have time to come and clean them. One room left a note the next morning and one didn't. The room with the note had a clean pot that day and the room with no note did not! This is a slower season too. Just check your coffee pots when you check in.

jay-nee:

to answer your question on how I got a $65 rate at POR, i was wrong it was actually $79...i just checked my paperwork. i got an email back in july for select weeks in october, and snatched it up quickly. you cant beat that for a moderate resort, we were pleasantly surprised. just keep checking for those codes...i saw one in our local NY paper today for $55 a night at the value resorts in jan and feb...

We stayed at the POFQ for a week in June 2004. I was disappointed when it came to the overall cleanliness of the hotel and grounds. For $100 per night I expected much more.

My little girl did enjoy the pool though.
