We are leaving in just a few weeks and staying at POR. I didn't make any kind of specific request for room location, and now I'm second guessing that decision and thinking maybe I should.

Does anyone have suggestions for what I should ask for? I'm not familiar with the layout of the resort other than what I've seen on a map, but I would love for someone who had a good experience with location to give me something to shoot for.

Though I know there are many considerations, I'm guessing that proximity to bussing would be a big one. Also maybe to pools? Though I don't know how much swimming will be done in mid November. Just what a normal family of six with four tired kids after a day in the parks would be looking for. If there are specific buildings or building numbers, that would be fantastic.

Your advice, please.

Alligator Bayou building 14 or 18 or else the Manor Buildings-Oak Manor or Magnolia Terrace. These are closest to the main building for eating, refillable mugs, and catching the bus from the main building is easy and empty. From there, it goes around the rest of the resort. Enjoy your stay. We loved it here.

If you ask for the location criteria you want rather than a specific building, you will have better luck getting what you want. For example if you request building 14 but no rooms are available in building 14, they will just put you in what is available because they have no clue as to why you want building 14.

However, if you ask for "close to main building, quiet location" They will know what you are looking for and will do their best to find you a room that meets those criteria.

A very wise DISer posted this advice and we have always been able to get a room that we were happy with :goodvibes

Good luck to you!

One other thing to add -- if the four tired kids are young enough to need a stroller(s), you may want to be cautious about requesting the Alligator Bayou section. While I prefer that section's rustic theming, none of the buildings have elevators. So if you are on the second floor (as we were) you will be toting tired kids up the stairs (and a stroller, too) at the end of the day. It was really a pain for us, and we said never again until the kids were older!
