I'm going on a solo trip in August. I booked the following:

Plane lands at MCO round 1:00 p.m. I booked POR garden view for the one night. I planned on hanging around the resort then DS later in the day.

4 night package to start the following day at YC garden view.

However, when making the final payment on the package yesterday, I switched my resort to POR river view. The difference was about $500 less. I would love to stay at the YC but after making all my plans such as dining, MNSSHP, and fastpasses I didn't feel I would utilize the resort enough to justify the price.

I will definitely miss having a balcony and the proximity to Epcot esp. for the first day of F&W. I got an email that the magic band is being shipped and on its way. My questions are, if I decide to upgrade back to YC or another deluxe, will I have to get a new band and will it mess up using ME? I am not leaving until the end of August and the cm I was speaking to indicated I can upgrade at no penalty but if I downgraded after the 30 period, there is a $50 charge. I don't have any intention of downgrading but a slight chance I may upgrade.

And secondly, can anyone give their opinions on the river view rooms at POR. Are some really far from the main building. And, I was hoping for the mansion location. Are these rooms located in AB too?

Thanks!

I would never pay to upgrade to a River View room at POR. Since you don't have a balcony to sit and enjoy the view I feel it is a waste of money
Your reservation is not on your Magic Band it is in your MDE Account. Your MB is like your debit card that allows access to your bank account. Your money is in your account not on your card. You will not need new bands if you change reservations.

Changing rooms or resorts will not affect your MB at all. Like PP mentioned, it is linked to your MDE account. Though I will mention, I had issues using multiple MBs when I used the laundry facilities. We had one trip that was split 3 ways, so we had 3 MBs, and they did not all work at POR's laundry room. I don't know if it was a glitch or not, but I don't usually do laundry on vacation, so I don't worry too much about it.

We've stayed in a river view room once at POR. We were staying in a royal room and all of the categories besides standard were the same price so I thought, why not. We had a corner room, but both windows had huge trees in front of them. I could not see the river from my room at all. I wasn't too disappointed because the price was the same as a garden or pool view, and it was very close to the main building so that was a perk. There are river view rooms in AB and those also seem pretty close to the main buildings. If you go to portorleans.org, you can see what rooms are river view, and get more information on the resort. I love it there!

Thank for the info. I didn't want to book a standard at POR because I didn't want to face the parking lot esp. being solo. Some of the pathways seem dark in AB section. I've stayed twice at POR but only one night each time and once it was preferred. I was hoping for the mansion section since I was in AB twice before.

I would only stay/pay preferred at POR.
Otherwise you can be anywhere and it's a Huge resort. Preferred is AB section only ( I believe) and either 14/18 is what I typically request.
We were placed in what felt like a million miles and had a bus issue as it was Full when it arrived. By staying preferred we use the South Depot, which is close, first stop.
Enjoy ur visit beautiful resort.

When you do online check-in, just request a mansion room - that should be an option. You might even want to call and request it with a CM, too. Since you're traveling alone, they might be more likely to honor that request.

Thank you for the tips. I think I'll call and do that before I leave.

Thanks, I was just looking at the pictures on the POR thread. It really is a pretty resort. If they just had balconies, it would be perfect.

With the OP having a RV room, she will be within 5 minutes or closer to the main building and main pool. Plus, even when we were in the back of AB it was only a 10 minute walk which we did not feel was that bad.

We have had 2 river views at Por. Both Acadian House and Magnolia Terrace have river view rooms. They are the non Royal Rooms. My fav was Acadian House location close to Footbridge. It was very close to main building, food court, resort shop, etc. In the mornings I preferred to use the bus stop behind our building rather than the busy, main bus depot. My problem with main Depot - the thoughtless people who queue even if it isn't their bus coming. And they don't move!! Outer bus depots are way more civilized!

I did book river view, non Royal Room. Acadian House sounds like a good choice. I looked at my reservation online and it looks like the CM did list close to lobby/main building so maybe I will get that. Thanks for info.!

Hope you enjoy it! Added bonus, you will also be close to the quiet pool. We had 2nd floor room, maybe 5 doors down from elevator.
