Are any of the mansion buildings preferred? We leave in 3 weeks and I haven't requested anything yest mostly b/c I was waitinf to see what building was going to be refurbished by then. It looks like Acadia will be done by the time I go, so do I just request that ? or is there a specific building # I should add also ( thats not preferred?)
Thanks :)

None of the mansion buildings are preferred. If you are booked in a preferred room category, you will be in AB. If you are not booked for a preferred room, you can request Acadian House. There is no building number.

Acadian House is #80
Magnolia Terrace is #85
Oak Manor is #90
Parterre Place is #95

Preferred rooms are all in AB though (Buildings 14, 15, 18, and 27)

What is the difference between preferred room and a water view room? Can the mansions still have water view? There are only 2 of us, and I really don't want to stay in AB just for a water view room. Thanks.

Preferred room is one of the above mentioned buildings. They have close access to all amenities. Water View rooms can be in any building. Essentially, a water view room has a view of some sort of water feature. (i.e. the river, a pool, a fountain, etc.) River View rooms have exclusively a river view. Mansions can and do have water view.

I have a water view room booked in one month and am hoping to get Acadian House.

Any tips for a fellow Dis'er to improve my odds? I didn't know at the time of booking to make this request but have since called to add this request to my reservation. Is it worth it for my to call 8-10 days before we go? Should I book on line or not? I'd rather stand in line for a bit (or a lot) and get queen beds for a week if it would help. What is your experience?

I've always requested the specific building that I wanted. Only time I didn't request... I got exactly the building that I dislike.

What I meant, and what I assumed the OP meant, is that there aren't multiple building numbers for each building... for instance, it's not Acadian House and then there's buildings 1, 2, 3 and 4 within that section. It's just Acadian House. But yes, the numbers above correspond with the building names, and use it for easy reference on the map too.

Preferred rooms are good for the larger resorts because your placed near the main amenities. I personally would not pay for a preferred mainly because I don't mind walking, and also because at POR, I don't like AB. As a PP said, water view doesn't necessarily mean it will be a good one - it could be a view of a fountain or pool. River view, which I think is more expensive yet, will give you a view of the river, although it's not worth the price IMO since you don't have a private balcony and there's still the pathway in between you and the river.

Yeh, when I booked I knew next to nothing about Disney World compared to what I now know (isn't the Dis great!) when I booked a water view room I thought that ment I'd be placed in the POR mansions with a view of the river. The other thing I assumed back when I booked was that the mansions had interior hallways with balconies. I was already picturing my DW and myself sitting on our balcony early in the morning enjoying our complementary cup of coffee watching the river go by.

Oh man what a let down! Easy mistakes to make though, and I'd imagine it happens a lot. 99% of the people I know that go to Disney World do not do the research and treat WDW like any other vacation. It requires so much more knowledge and planning. I know someone going in August during free dining, and they are big foodies and they have no ADRs. They don't even know they are supposed to make reservations. A lot of that probably happens on first trips!

Well it's not all bad just not what I thought I was getting. Back in February I started to do my research and I'm glad I did.

I started by reading the Moms Panel, then I read every menu that interested me (just about all of them) on the mouse for less. Portorleans.org was very interesting and helpful. Then I discovered this sight the DIS  I've been here every single day since.

Another great research tool that have become additive are the various Pod casts that are on iTunes. I listen to and from on my daily commute and fall asleep to one each night.

Even though I made my ADRs back in February I'm still happy with all of them other then a small mix up that I made. I ment to made our Epcot dinner at Teppen Edo instead I booked Tokyo Dinning.

I may have never went to the World but with all the homework that I've done I feel I'm more ready then the average rookie. Got my daily plans plans all typed out I'm up to date on what will be closed, and know what our must sees are. After all if you can't believe every thing you read on the web who can you believe?

Just one small question...What park is the Harry Potter ride in? :confused3 Epcot? ;)

:lmao: Have a great trip. I hope POR doesn't dissapoint you with no indoor halls or balconies! ! We love the mansion section. It's so beautiful walking around the river path. But do take the time to explore AB too! One day we got off the bus purposefully at the furthest stop from our mansion in AB just to sight see! Be sure you take in Bob jackson's show in River Roost, take the boat to DTD, and walk over to FQ one morning for the Beignets :goodvibes

I hope you check out the POR thread on this board. Page 1 has loads of info, and the posts are great too, esp the photos from KCmike.

Ha ha! That was a joke, right?

:rolleyes1

Hi Sue don't get me wrong I'm not disappointed I just didn't know any better.

I heard Bob Jackson on one of the podcasts that I listened to and from that I scheduled him into our plans. I'm thinking a morning walk along the river with a cup of coffee rather then my balcony (that was only in mind) would be a good idea. Hey, that would be a great time for beignets! The boat to DTD is the very first thing on our list day one. After a stroll around DTD and lunch at Earl of Sandwich it's off to Hess for supplies.
