POR question/ POFQ closing

FYI:

I am a Disney travel agent. We just found out today that POFQ will be closing for re-hab for 2 years, beginning May 3 2003

Disney is moving ALL exsisting ressi's to POR. If I were you I would ask to be upgraded to a Deluxe instead!

I e-mailed SOG this morning about our overflow ressie at PO-FQ for June 11-18 with two of our granddaughters. My main concern is traveling with my disabled vet husband who can't spend much time at the park and needs to be close to food, etc. while I'm at the park with the kiddos. We've been moved to CBR with a request that we have a quiet first floor room in a building near Old Port Royale. I hope we get what we need. We'll have a problem if we're a long way from OPR or a bus stop. The little girls will be happy with the beaches though.

I am really confused: so when they closed POFQ after 9/11, they didn't do renovations then??

NCRedding - post 9/11 POFQ was shut down because they didn't have the money to keep it open...the LAST thing that Disney would do then is SPEND money to refurbish one of their slower resorts...

also - it takes more then a few months to do major renovations to a resort - keep in mind, this closing is going to be for about 2 years!

Actually, they did do renovations when FQ was closed down in 2001. The Food Court was renovated and the outsides of the buildings were redone. As was mentioned above, it will be nice to have the inside looking as nice as the outside with the newest renovations. And - nothing I've read indicates FQ will be closed for the entire two years, POR will be closed in shifts over a period of two years, seems to be the general gist of things.

It'll be lemonade for us EEYORE! :D
Though I was looking forward to POFQ and all it had to offer, I'll probably go with CBR. Having never stayed on site before I'm sure my boys will just LOVE it! Of course I have plenty of time to adjust -- if my trip was in May I don't know if I'd be trying to make lemonade...or just making faces! ;)

My mom has ressies there for May 2-4 with a FL Residents rate. Should she call and try to change to another mod or just wait to be called. When she first made the ressie, she was told that CSR was booked. I remember people getting really good deals at the deluxes last time they closed ($99 for the Poly?) Did I dream that??? I will probably tell her to wait to get called. Any advice??

I have seen on other threads where if you wait for CRO to call you, you may get offered upgrades to deluxes for only $10 - $30 more per night.

Please, please take the upgrade to deluxe (I am at CSR in May and want it to be as uncrowded as possible).

;)

Yes, you will DEFINITELY get the better deal if you wait for them to call you! Please wait... I don't thinkyou will be disappointed!!!:)

I know a lot of people are bummed about this news, but I'm really excited! :) I think POR and POFQ are both in need of rehab and are going to look soooooo much better once they're done. :) Also, I wouldn't be upset about being moved to CBR, it's a beautiful resort. :) But, if you wait for your phone call you have a better chance for a deluxe upgrade. My mother-in-law got upgraded to AKL when they decided not to open Pop Century. What a great deal that was! :)

I know this is a stupid question, But are you all sure that POFQ pool will be closed too? I had booked POR for Oct. and was looking foward to both pools.

Also for thoes of you who have stayed during renovations, is it going to be really loud??

:teeth: Here we go again! LOL The heck with actually going! PLANNING has been an adventure enough!!! LOL Seriously---first I had ASMo then switched to ASSp b/c of code......THEN CBR.....THE to POR..Thought that would be great!!! Now I am wondering if I should change once more. Hmmmmm I am sure it will still be magical. This is our first trip and I just want everything to go great! :smooth:

It is not a stupid question, no one knows for sure if the pool will be closed, there is just a lot of speculation running around.

POFQ is far enough away from Riverside, I seriously doubt you will even know it is under renovation.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to post this, but here it goes. My dear friend works at Dixie Landing and I wrote her and asked for an update, from someone at ground zero. She said that FQ AND at least 1000 rooms from Dixie Landing (Riverside for you newbies) will be done first. She said YES this time they are refurbishing with new fixtures and stuff. She said that most of the CMs are been relocated to other resorts, and since she works at Dixie, not French Quarters, it includes them too. So even though Dixie will be open, it sounds like they will be working with a reduced staff. I didn't ask about the FQ pool or food court. She was just excited to get to go work at another resort like she did the last time they were closed/reduced. I have ressies at Dixie Landing in October, but do not like either of the other 2 moderates, so will have to wait and think about what I want to do. I'll see her in 4 weeks and will get more on whether I should change my fall plans.

sounds like I'm going to have LOTS of company at PO Riverside. I'm a bit concerned about check in but there isn't much I can do. It sounds like those that will be offered a change in resort or an upgrade to another are those that were staying at PO French Quarters...not people like my group (3 rooms) who were already booked at the Riverside resort. The pool at Riverside was just recently renovated but the last time my hubby and I were at POR (Feb. '03) we were making a remark that it is the only moderate resort that has not had their food court re-done. I guess it was time.

I spoke with my friend at PO-FQ, and YES, the entire resort, pool and food court included will be closed, and the castmembers will be transferred elsewhere. They did not find this out until Friday night. It is said that the PO-FQ will be closed for 2 years (no one knows if they will reopen as soon as they are completed with the rehab, or be closed the entire 2 years), and they will also be doing rehab on PO-R in the Alligator Bayou section to start and then follow into the Mansions, but the Mansions will be last to be rehabbed.

Last I heard, they are serving the beignets in the Food court at PO-R, as well, so at least maybe we can stop their for our Beignet fix!!!

I worked at POFQ for quite awhile (in the food court no less!) and I know for a fact that at least the food court was renovated in 2001. The rest of the resort was kind of needing some work too.
I'm a little sad because now if I go back to visit I won't be able to find all my friends in one place...:(

n2mm~ what's your friend's name? I may have worked with her at one time or another. She must be much more adaptable than I was, I hated being deployed! I was on the colllege program while the Carribean people were working at POFQ, so they kept shipping us out to other resorts. I ended up at All Star Sports, Grand Floridian, and Animal Kingdom Lodge. I hated it because every foodcourt you went to was completely different, different rules, different people, different facilities, but the managers always expected you to know everything as soon as you got there. It was very frustrating.

Does anyone know WHEN the POR - AB section will be going under rehab? I guess I could call, but I actually think I would get better info from here. :p Call me crazy.

Thanks...

POR - AB in July???
