Im looking at booking a preferred room in POR. We are a group of 5, so I know we will be on the AB side anyway. And we need a ground floor room because my sister cant do stairs because of her RA. How do we keep from getting a parking lot view? There doesnt seem to be an option to pay for both preferred and a garden or water view. We will be using our one request for ground floor.

i'd call to book rather than going online. i know when we were looking at booking a group of 6 at the poly there were room options they were able to give us over the phone that weren't showing up when i looked online.

It may behoove you to book a preferred room, especially with your sister's condition. Some of the AB buildings can be pretty far from the main buildings which would involve a lot of walking. In addition, no preferred buildings have a parking lot view.

If you'd rather book a standard room, all you can do is request "no parking lot view" and have the person notate this on your reservation. Our room faced the parking lot but there was a nice courtyard and fountain in between our room and the parking lot, so it wasn't too big of an issue for us.

We are going to book preferred. Just wondering how to get a nice view as well since thats not one of the online booking options. Good to know that there are parking lot facing options that have some prettyness between the room and the cars.

IMO would call and make them over the phone to be sure got what wanted and of course that is not guaranteed.....but helps

POR has several booking categories now.

Preferred
King
Water view
River view
Royal Rooms.

If you book preferred, then you have to request a view. That is what she is commenting on - you cannot book both a preferred room and water view; you have to book on and request the other.

We never concern ourselves with a view when staying at a mod. You won't have a balcony. You won't have privacy if your curtains and blinds are open. All windows open onto the public walkway that guests use to get to their rooms. And when we stay at mods we don't spend a lot of time hanging around the room anyway.

Now when we stay deluxe and will have a balcony, that's a whole different thing.

All I'm trying to say is that having the preferred building (paid upgrade) and a first floor room (non-guaranteed request) will be your first priority. And there's only a 25% chance that any room would face a parking lot (rooms on all 4 sides of the building). So when you check in, if you find out your room DOES face the parking lot, just ask the CM if he can change you to another room.
